motu 828mk2 noise and problems with my new G5

Post by tristan »

i just spent 3grand on supposedly the best sound card around (828mk2) and a brand newG5 2ghz dual with 4gig of ram with tiger10.4.2. I am getting horrid noise clicks, pops, midiclock noise, mouse movement noise and a host of other problems including what you mentioned when loading big samples (sampletank) and core audio errors and disc too slow error messages. I read on another forum people slating the 828, firewire being the problem. I just moved from a delta1010LT on a G4 800single1.5gig ram and had no noise or probs whats soo ever. I read that you cant run two firewire devices as it takes up too much firewire bandwidth creating probs. I have a firewire hard drive connected to front port and 828mk2 on the back port. I am going to ditch the hard drive and change the 828 for an internal sound card unless someone can help me. I have clients booked and need to be fully functional now!

I am running a similar setup with the 828mkII, a dual 2.3Ghz with half the RAM that you have and 10.4.2 and have not had any of the problems you mentioned.

It will probably be hard for anyone to troubleshoot without more info.

When do you get the clicks & pops and errors, etc? Do you have all of the latest drivers installed from MOTU? What DAW software are you using?

Many people are using the same hardware you have with no problems. I doubt it is the hardware. Check all of your settings and make sure your 828 drivers are current.

Better you get the G5 and audio gear all on the same ground point, than lift a gorund and risk your gear.

Try in 828MKII the second port (Firewire), for the Firewire HardDrive...
EX : G5 > 828MKII > HardDrive !
G4 1.4 Mhz/ 1.5 Gb RAM - iMac 2.1Gh 1.5 Gb RAM - 828 MKII - MTP/AV - DP3 - 2 (Two) SAMPLECELL Cards - MACKIE 32/8 Bus - JBL4333A - YAMAHA NS10M - YAMAHA ProR3 - DBX 160A - OTARI DAT - ADAT XT - VIRUS - TRINITY - Super JD 990 - MO'PHATT - POD Line 6 - BEHRINGER's DEQ2496 / MIC2200 - NEUMANN MIC's and more...
