MOTU MIDI Express XT with Parallel Interface - Is there an editor

Post by Rfrayo »

Hello. New to the forum and MOTU gear!

Tried searching but didn't come up with much.

I came across a big box of random MIDI hardware: serial MIDI controllers, Sycologic hardware (M16rs, M16exs, and a PSP), some Miditemp PMM-88 Es, and some random Roland MPU hardware. In it was also some MOTU MIDI Express XTs with parallel interfaces. The Sycologic gear is surprisingly incredibly useful.

I have a Windows 98 computer with genuine DOS as well as 98. It has serial and parallel ports. I was wondering - can this computer be used to edit the MOTU machines? If so, how?
What software do I need? Where can I get it? Are there any DOS programs that can talk to this?
I don't mind paying for software, either.

First thing to know is if your unit is compatible with Windows. it should say so on a label or sticker if it is. If there’s a RS232 port, it should be.

Your unit should have a CR2032 battery to maintain settings. Easy to reach and should be changed.

MOTU no longer has legacy drivers on the download site earlier than XP. I used to keep these drivers and it’s possible that I may have them somewhere. If I have the CD for my MTP-AV or disk image for my Micro Express, I might have what you need. It may take a bit of searching.

*The micro express, micro lite, MIDI Express 128, and MIDI Express XT share the same manual. The MTP AV USB also has parallel ports. The manuals at this link should be complete enough for you to make it work if still functional.

The computer has Serial, Parallel, and USB. It runs Windows 98.

The XT has just Parallel and RS-422. It uses Parallel for WIndows.

It is just a regular XT, it's just made in 1996.

It's actually one of the newer pieces of equipment here.
The rest is just a lot of vintage synthesizers.

I found something!

I was hoping to test it out today, but I lack a working parallel cable. I just ran mine through the cable tester and it's not working. I ordered one.
