DP 11 Crashes

Post by bmcbean49 »

I just downloaded DP 11 when I open it, it goes thru its functions but then crashes.
I brought the upgrade. I use to have DP 10.13.6

Did you reboot your Mac? If not, try that first.

If yes, do a Safe Boot and hold the Shift key while starting DP 11. It should fire up. If so, close DP and try again. You should now be good but, if not, there's likely a plugin incompatibility. If DP doesn't open in Safe Mode, reinstall DP 11, reboot and try again.

I assume you are trying to load a previous project? This was similar behavior many saw when DP10 first came on line. I recall the solution was to create a new Project, import the old project, and save as the new version. Or maybe it was save the Project first, and then import?

I think the OP is referring to simply launching DP11 (which Mike has given some tips to try), but this is a good reminder. DP11 has been crashier for me on the project, which was started in 10, that I’ve been working on. I’ll try Loading all the Chunks into a new sequence if it continues…I’m nearly done with it, and it uses several Chunks, so kind of a pain to do unless it’s totally necessary

I rebooted a few times holding the shift key (safe mode) with no good results. So I reinstalled DP 11 with no good results. :(
DP 11 crashes on new & opening up old projects as well as new. It does not even get that far to do chunks.

It's worth double checking the full list of suggestions: 1. there is rebooting your mac, 2. rebooting your mac in safe mode, and 3. launching DP with shift down (which disables audio driver), 4. reinstalling DP

The first three help determine if the cause is related to a software conflict.

Next step would be to try it on a new, fresh account I think …and/or calling MOTU. Although they may be difficult to reach for a bit since DP11 just dropped.

What is your MacOS?

Did you install in the default location?

In Mac's System Preferences, you create a new user, log out, and log in as that new user.

Can you explain what is the reference between adding a new user account and fixing the crash problem?

Create another acount is often advised by MOTU hot-line in the event of an issue .

Sometimes the problem is an OS X issue, rather than an issue with a specific application. Various things get corrupted in the various settings for the account itself. A new account doesn't have the problems and the problems, if they are associated with the account, disappear.

A common example here is network problems with OS X 10.13 which magically disappear when a new account is created. After a while the network problem will re-appear until another account is created. This is something I have to do on older Macs from time to time. It's useful to carefully follow the instructions for renaming account to do this so you can keep the same account name.

OS X 10.14 systems don't show this problem here. I put it down to years of security enhancement that have been applied to OS X 10.13, keeping me safe by preventing me from doing anything.
