M2 Driver Install with Big Sur

Post by HazelRah »

[Apologies, I'm a noob. I did search for this and related topics, but did not see this. Please point me in the right direction if I missed it.]

I do not do recording. I bought the M2 for the sole purpose of connecting to JamKazam and getting very low latency so that I can play with others successfully. The only application I'm using with the M2 is JamKazam, and the only real function of the M2 that I want is the low latency. I have a 16" 2019 MacBook Pro running macOS 11.2.2 (Big Sur). I did not know about the lack of Big Sur driver support until I successfully (!) installed the driver and found much higher latency (11.27ms) on JamKazam than I was expecting. That led me to google and discovering what you all already know (https://motu.com/en-us/news/motu-and-macos-big-sur/)

In interaction with MOTU help, they suggested that I disable SIP (terminal command "csrutil disable" in Recovery Mode) and that I would then be able to install the current M2 driver. I tried that (after confirming SIP was disabled), but still had no change in the latency (and no request during install to Allow MOTU to install the driver). Is the issue that I have to uninstall first? I tried deleting MOTUCoreUAC.kext and installed again, but with the same result.

Have others had any luck with this workaround to install, or do I just need to wait for the official driver release? I'm considering returning the M2 and buying a different brand of audio interface rather than wait indefinitely. It seems other companies have figured out Big Sur already. The MOTU help person, when prompted, guessed that it would be "weeks" rather than "months", but I don't want to wait even weeks. Open to any advice.
