Switch to headphones destroys Instrument Bundles

Post by BatBoySings »

I'm still hoping someone can help me avoid this; it keeps happening on my MBPro 2020 running DP10.11 on Catalina. It also happened on my 2015 MBPro running 9.02 on El Capitan.

Interface is a UAD Apollo Twin Duo. If DP is on and I go to Configure Hardware Driver to switch from Apollo to my built-in output -- or if I'm away from studio and I open a sequence and switch from UAD to Headphones -- it makes the switch fine, but then all my Instrument assignments vanish from my Bundles window. It seems to convert all my Kontakt, Omnisphere, VEPro instruments etc. into "Finale L1-R2" or sometimes "Ableton L1-R2", leaving all my stem tracks with unassigned or unusable inputs.

I know I can export Bundle configurations and then re-import them, but that is messy -- it doubles the number of instruments while still leaving my inputs unassigned.

I can sometimes avoid this problem by making sure to only switch interfaces when DP is not running, but I still think it happens occasionally even then. I would be hugely grateful for all advice. Thanks!

It happened to me last week.
I dared plugging some headphones directly into my Mac, and DP went nuts with my Instrument bundles and regular audio bundles. The only reason I noticed is because I started getting strange DP messages insisting on some kind of feed back in my tracks, and I know that's impossible 'cause I know my template really well...

It wasn't fun interrupting creativity to fix the project's bundles, which took me around an hour to do.

Ok, that's weird but I might know the problem.

When you plug your headphones in directly, what's your Audio Input? You need to have one. Have you ever let DP have access to your internal microphone? If not, it may be waiting for you to grant that permission in System Preferences.

You only need to do it the first time. Afterward, it knows.

The other day I was asked by the OS that DP wanted access to my Contacts... And then to my Calendar...

Why would DP want that?

I do remember the computer asking about DP and the microphone some time ago. I said no. Why would DP want access to my computer microphone?

Why would DP want access to my computer microphone?
Only when the internal speakers or external headphones are selected as Output. Unless you've selected a different input source in Preferences/Sound, that used to always be the Default—but not anymore. Recently, the OS keeps the default from happening so it asks for permission.

I don't know why but most audio apps do that nowadays and some don't work properly if denied.

Thanks very much Mike! Sadly I fear that seems not to be the cause -- I checked my Privacy settings, and I had already allowed DP to access my microphone. (My vanishing-instruments problem was also happening on my 2015 MBPro running El Capitan, which never asked me for these kind of permissions the way Catalina does.) But even so, this could be the right area to dig, I'll keep investigating. So your help is much appreciated. Cheers!
