can Dp7.24 run externally with Mojave

Post by next »

I know it is a tough question.
I was happy with my MBP 2009 with OSX 10.11 until it died a few months ago. My new MBP runs Mojave and I know from this topic that DP7.24 doesn't run on it. I have the SSD of the old MBP as an external drive: is there any change to run DP7.24 externally at least to recover some project and some arrangements?
I did some attempts.
I have the original CD connected via USB to Mojave, I launch DP7.24 on the external SSD, insert the key code, the CD starts doing things, but then it cycles asking for the key code again.
My last chance is to ask for help to the forum.
Thank you.

All you need to do is open the projects in a newer version of DP. I’d suggest zipping the before moving them.

Can’t be done.
but then it cycles asking for the key code again
Yep. It does that when the drive is formatted APFS. I was able to test this when High Sierra came out.

Upgrade to the current version of DP. Download the demo and reopen those projects. Some plugins wont work while others may now be repurposed.

If you can’t open your old projects there are permission issues and a few ways to deal with them. As has been suggested, zip (archive) the project folder, move to your system drive and unzip. This should now work. If not, there are other ways to do this.

I don’t know how, but I sorted out! I mean, I launched 7.01 version instead of 7.24, it didn’t cycles for the key code, but it crashes. I didn’t give up right away and reopened it a couple of times, then a plugin error window appeared which gave me hope, I clicked ok and yeah! ...the "open project window" came up. I’ve disabled immediately all plugins.

Thanks a lot for your help MIDI Life Crisis and mikehalloran, I'll surely save your suggestion and upgrade asap to DP10.

There’s a fully functional demo of DP 10 on the MOTU site. You could probably use that to transfer the files and save as to the version you’re using.

just an update if it could help someone:
I've installed El Capitan on a Virtual Machine
I've installed Digital Performer 7.01 from CD on El Capitan but when typing the key code, DP7 start to cycle asking the key code without completing the installation.
I put the "Auth-digitalperformer 7.0" file on the root of the system /
The installation has been successful.

Instead, version 7.24 seems not work, it crashes when launched.

Since DP 7.x is incompatible with APFS, that is not surprising.

I discovered a way to get 7.24 working over High Sierra on an SSD formatted HFS+ but never posted it and no one asked me how—convoluted and you really, really have to want it. I don't believe that Mojave can run on an HFS+ drive; the installer formats HDDs as APFS as does High Sierra 10.13.6.
