MP3 Export suddenly not working

Trying to export a soundbite using the DP 10 export function and program cannot find L.A.M.E. mp3 exporter. Just cannot figure out what could have changes with my setup to cause this to happen. It has worked flawlessly for many, many years. Now it doesn't.

The reason: LAME mp3 decoder could not open output file. ??? error ???

Reboot and see if you still have a problem.

If so, reinstall DP, reboot and see if you still have a problem.

Just noting this is on a 12 core machine. As a observed in the past, these super fast machines do have their share of odd issues.

If DP 9 was reinstalled after 10, L.A.M.E. Export disappears from 10 until it is reinstalled.

So the problem suddenly went away after a few reboots and more importantly disconnecting my iPod from the computer which had activated iTunes. Somehow I think iTunes stole the mp3 convertor away from DP, hence it was not available. Also, I have had so many problems running DP 10.11 that I have been running DP under El Capitan 10.11.6 to avoid problems of hanging whenever I did a bounce to disk... which I do quite often with the way I'm using DP to record solo acoustic guitar practices.

In fact, it never worked right under Catalina... stuck in the past now for who knows how long.

Yea, you left out the iOS part. There are issues with older versions of iOS and the current Mac OSs. There are threads on this.

I had the BTD Offline hang a couple of days ago for the first time since 3.x on my Beige G3, I think. New project but old template—no plugins. I was bouncing a single track with no effects, VIs or plugins. Even when I Option-booted DP in Safe mode with no plugins, it happened. I had not created the files that were loaded in but all I was trying to bounce were the vocal tracks I’d created, one at a time for someone else’s project. Online BTD worked, of course, but took much longer.

So yesterday, before creating a Tech Link, I decided to create a new project from one of my new templates and imported the same raw files into it and create some test tracks. Could not recreate the problem.

MOTU has suggested creating new project files when such issues arise. I’m now a believer and consider the problem solved.
