DP10.1 Looping Individual Tracks In Main Window
Hey Folks,
Forgive me for asking if you find this question silly but, I can't figure out how to simply loop individual tracks within the main 'Tracks' overview window. The function was under 'Regions' but has since been replaced by 'Pack into Clips' and 'Unpack Clips.'
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to check this out yet, but when I opened an old project with MIDI track loops, the loops were replaced by clips. I guess this is the new format.

In the updated manual for 10.1, it states in there somewhere that looped sections will be replaced with looped clip regions when loading old projects...or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact details, but I read it when I was trying to learn more about the new Clips feature.
The looped clips are easier to work with then the old way...IMHO.
It took me a long time to figure out how to create a clip region from scratch, but I like the new feature. One additional thing I wish that they just had a simple way to say, right click on the track lane and say "create clip", then open the clip editor start entering notes on the piano roll. its a bit cumbersome to work with clip regions on tracks right now. Glad that they added it though.
Right now you can set a preference in DP to automatically create clips when recording MIDI, rather then the legacy way. So that's cool, but if you want to just quickly create a clip and add notes to it, the only way I could figure out was to create a clip in the clip matrix area...and then open that in a separate window so you can drag and drop it over to the sequencer window and create clips. Or I guess you could add notes to the track piano roll in the sequencer window...then select the notes and then use the menu option to convert them to a clip. So IMHO still a bit cumbersome...but I think some people do like that the old legacy way of not really having MIDI regions per say, is still there to make some people happy and new MIDI regions (ie clips) can also be there to work that way if you want...and I prefer..but sometimes a little more work to get them going...its not front and center as the default, its more like the secondary approach...
But anyway, when I was reading in the manual about clips in tracks it said some stuff about what happens when older projects are opened that have loops and they are converted to looped clips. I think once you use them you will find them easier to deal with for that kind of situation.

In the Sequence Editor you can click/drag with the pencil tool to create a blank MIDI region (I mean clip -- sorry, I'm coming from a Logic mindsetdewdman42 wrote: It took me a long time to figure out how to create a clip region from scratch, but I like the new feature. Does that do what you want?

That's closer. Thanks. Still slightly cumbersome in that you have to select the pencil tool, draw the region, then select the arrow tool in order to double click on the region to finally be able to select the pencil tool again to add some notes.
Its 1/3 as many clicks in LogicPro to get going with that, not to nit pick. I'm just happy beyond description that MOTU finally added true MIDI clip regions like this. Hopefully down the road more people will use this feature and perhaps MOTU will put it more front and center and slightly less cumbersome. The extra couple of clicks aren't that big of a deal, but it took me a lot of time and eventually having to read the manual (gasp) to figure out how to get it going..it was not immediately intuitive, in comparison to yes..LogicPro.

Re: DP10.1 Looping Individual Tracks In Main Window
Yeah, I'm still figuring this out too, but I found that in DP if you select any tool other than the pointer, then holding down the "X" key gets you the pointer back temporarily (kinda similar to how the secondary tool works in Logic).dewdman42 wrote:That's closer. So in this case, select the pencil tool, create your new clip in the SE, hold down "X" to get the pointer, double-click the clip to open in MIDI Editor, then release "X" and your pencil tool is ready to go, to add notes.
Cuts out a couple steps anyway.

I haven't found this out yet. Like people have mentioned Clips are the new way to loop MIDI and audio. So with Clips in the Sequence Editor you select the upper right corner and it turns into a Loop tool like most DAWs I've used. So far in the Tracks window for me anyway it doesn't work.
