Authentication file - osx update fail

Post by davige »

So I updated osx 10.10 to 10.12 and it lost the authentication key. I have a back-up clone of my old system (10.10). Where is the original key located in the system files? I lost the disk and reference material when I moved this summer. But I paid full retail for dp 9 and need that info for the osx upgrade. Please help me locate the file which contains the authorization code I PAID FOR.
Great thanks in advance.

Your license is authenticated via the internet. If you can’t find the code you’ll need to give MOTU a call.

“Cloning” doesn’t.

Do you have the getting started manual... I think the code is printed inside the front or back cover

So this fiasco started by upgrading the ssd which required osx update.
Thank science for carbon copy cloner. I put old ssd back, then cloned b/u with old os and original key. Back in business! Just no tb ssd, oh well.

So this fiasco
Fiasco caused by misplacing the license key? Really? Worst case, a phone call to MOTU would have got you back up and running in a few minutes. How much time did you spend with CCCCCCCCCCC?

BTW, the license server needs to see the info exactly the way that the server has it entered: email address, user name and key code must match. Also, the key code uses dashes and will fail if you use minus signs from the numeric keypad. You can guess how I know... :banghead:
