DP 10 / Apollo x8 / Plugin glitches and crashes
Hi,
VERY long time DP user (since the first 'P' (without the 'D') was new), first time poster here.
Have a new maxed-out Mac mini, an Apollo x8 and DP10.
The problems: I've never had so many glitches and freezes with any other DP as I do with this latest version.
When ever I unmute a muted plugin, I can see the program freeze and most times it shoots ahead about 1000 bars, or craps out completely. Note; I never do it when the transport is in action.
Another one: many times the ability to record just will not be there. I can see the levels on the coordinated track(s) on the x8, and everything is patched correctly in DP, but... nothing. What I have to do is quit out, and relaunch. At times, that won't even do I and I have to reboot the computer.
This new Mac mini is the top of the line as far as processor and has 32 Gig of ram, so it should be up to the task. DP Tech support says they have no idea what the issue is, and UA says it must be DP.
I work around it, but it's annoying.

Re: DP 10 / Apollo x8 / Plugin glitches and crashes
I guess nobody is experiencing what I am?
Spoke with the UA techs.... had no idea that DP is not supported by UA. Wow. In any case, I am experiencing crashes, still, but I don't think it's necessarily the result of UA plugins... I was running just Waves plugins and only one track and DP freaked out and I lost the ability to record.
(this has happened too many times). This time I had to reboot the computer.
Losing patience.

Just a thought: Do you have any other versions of DP installed on the same partition? It seems that DP9 and 10 have a tendency to share the same preference files and don't play well together.

So it is not recommended to install both versions?

I wouldn't do it. Myself and others have reported problems. I don't think MOTU has made any official pronouncements in this regard. It's worth a try. You may have to delete all the pref files prior to a reinstall.nickpyo wrote:

FWIW, I don't have the Apollo, but I do have a thunderbolt UAD Satellite and it's working fine with DP 10. I do, BTW, still have DP 9 installed. Are you running the latest UAD software?

Re: DP 10 / Apollo x8 / Plugin glitches and crashes
All versions of DP share the same resources folder—if 5 was your first install, it’s the same. The latest installer overwrites libraries with the same name. The problem comes when trying to use an older version after installing the newer. It doesn’t matter if it’s trying to run 7.24, 8.x or 9.51 after a 9.52 install or 9.52 after a 10 install, there will be issues. In the case of 10, 9.52 was pretty much unusable after a 10 install—if you reinstalled 9.52, 10 became useless. That’s how DP has always worked.cuttime wrote:Just a thought: Do you have any other versions of DP installed on the same partition? I’m guessing that’s not the problem.
Open the Activity and Background Processing monitors along with Console.app. You will see what is causing the problem. The trick is knowing what you are seeing and identifying the real problem when it appears.
In the mean time, reinstall the UA drivers, then DP. Do a Safe Boot (hold the Shift key and log into your Users account when prompted) to reset your caches to default and repair any paths. Reboot again.
See what happens.

Re: DP 10 / Apollo x8 / Plugin glitches and crashes
Hi, thanks for the replies. I only have DP10 installed on this new Mac mini.
Worse problems surfaced today; UVI instruments would not stay in time. So weird. It would be fine on the first track then as soon as I chose a second UVi instrument, both tracks would fall out of time. There was only a single channel of audio going with 3 plug ins.
Opened a new session and it was okay, but did it again as I loaded more plugins on a single audio track.
Previously I had 20 tracks of audio and 20 plug ins opened and the UVi was perfect. Don;t know what the hell is going on, but I've never had so much trouble with DP ... ever. Getting ready to bail.

Re: DP 10 / Apollo x8 / Plugin glitches and crashes
UPDATE:
Yesterday I couldn't hardly run. Had to disable instruments and most Efx in order to transport. Reeboots, yada.
Today... same file... I am running TONS of plugins (Waves and UA) and the program is running perfectly and not even break a sweat. I tried opening things to cause the problems. Nothing. Running strong.
Perplexed.

Look for red lights inside your Mac Pro when you are having trouble. If RAM or the CPU daughter board is poorly seated, intermittent issues can arise.

Along those lines, you may need to burnish your TB3 cable ends by unplugging and reconnecting a few times. I had to do that and use DeOxIt on the upink cable to my USB-C hub to make it reliable.HCMarkus wrote:Look for red lights inside your Mac Pro when you are having trouble. You are using an actual TB3 cable, right? USB-C is a port only and not all cables are properly rated for Thunderbolt 3.
