Clean Install of Mavericks?
I am going to upgrade from Sierra to Mavericks.
What is the consensus on doing a clean install of the OS vs. just an OS upgrade?
Thanks!

You mean upgrading FROM Mavericks TO Sierra, right?

Sierra to Mojave, not Mavericks!
Not enough caffeine?

Re: Clean Install of Mavericks?
Back to your question. It depends on your older applications.
Many older apps will work fine in Mojave but will no longer install. This makes a clean install impossible. Unless there’s a compelling reason to do so, it’s not a good idea. Some older apps will not work anyway and those can be trashed. Without knowing what you have installed, I can’t offer any specifics.
The WWDC is coming up and we will soon know if OS 10.15 will really be the OS that breaks away from 32 bit. Apple has kicked this can before. If so, a lot of old stuff will no longer work—for me, that includes Microsoft, FileMaker and Adobe. Making my plans now.

All I run on this is DP and VE Pro...nothing else (other than 64-bit plugins).mikehalloran wrote:Back to your question. It depends on your older applications.

Re: Clean Install of Mavericks?
Mike, have you found an acceptable alternate to FileMaker? Something that can successfully import FM files?mikehalloran wrote:Back to your question. It depends on your older applications.

I’ll be in the same boat soon and FM (as you know) is around $540.00.
Grazie,
Buzzy

No and my version is too old for an upgrade, dammit!buzzsmith wrote:mikehalloran wrote:Mike, have you found an acceptable alternate to FileMaker? Something that can successfully import FM files?

Otherwise, my remaining 32 bit apps:
I can get away from Adobe Acrobat Pro if I have to so I don't need a subscription or $459 for a fixed license. PDF Expert compresses files well enough and is $79 for three licenses.
Office Home & Student 2019 will do — I've found resellers @ $99
SmartScore X2 Pro has promised a 64 bit upgrade. Last one was $99. I hope it isn't more.
BIAB 2019 is expected soon. 2019 for Windows is already out and is 64 bit.
DiskLabel isn't Mojave compatible so Mac CD/DVD Label Maker has already replaced it for CD printing and was only $25. It's the only app I could find for the use and became 64 bit a few months ago.
