Mouse Issues

Post by bayswater »

In moving to a 2018 Mini with a 4K monitor, I've been unable to get my MX Anywhere 2 Mouse to work properly. The drivers etc are up to date, and no preferences settings I can see have helped. The pointer jumps around erratically and is almost impossible to position. Problems at any screen resolution or tracking speed. Any number of old Apple mouses work fine.

I have a very old and cheap Microsoft wireless mouse with a UBS dongle, and it works well. The oddest thing: I noticed that when the MS mouse dongle is plugged in, the MX also works properly.

Another odd thing: With the MS mouse operating, if I unplug the MX USB dongle, the MS mouse become erratic for about 15 seconds, with the LED on its dongle flashing, and then it stops flashing and works properly.

Any ideas?

That might be the only solution. But the MX has a really nice scroll wheel.

Your answer reminds me of long ago when I had a late 60s BMW. I took it to a dealer and said the front end starts to shudder on the highway at about 80. A person in a white lab coat and clipboard took off his glasses and said: 'then don't go 80'.

Sorry. Could not resist.

Didn't realize that you lose functionality, though. That's not good.

Running now with both plugged in. Seems nuts but it works.

Y'know, I've been having lots of issues lately with erratic cursor movements with my magic mouse. Initially I thought it was the mouse but I've noticed it doesn't ever happen when there are no apps open (i.e., just mousing around the finder). I'm beginning to think it's an OS bug.

Interesting. I tried the an older old magic mouse but gave up on it because the bluetooth connection wasn't stable. Same with the trackpad, but moving things around a little have fixed that.

I started wondering whether the mouse mat is a factor with newer devices? I have mat with a black square in the middle, and the MX always stops when it goes over that. But it skips randomly on pure white surfaces too.

Yeah, I thought it was a mouse pad problem for a while, too. I've changed pads with no change in response. Today I was noticing that the problem seems worse whenever a browser is open. I use either Safari or Firefox. Opening either of them will cause erratic cursor movements...Today anyway. :?

I got reply from Logitech tech support. It was the most useless reply I can remember getting from any support. I had listed 6 things I tried to resolve the problem and described the system in some detail. They said I should try the same 6 things, make a series of adjustments in the Windows Control Panel, and use a USB 2.0 port.

I think some tech support folks can't read. I've had exchanges that go kinda like this:

Hi, I'm having this issue with Widget model 238XYZ. It won't turn on. I've checked all the connections and tried a different power cord. Any suggestions?

response: Thank you for bla, bla, bla... What model of our Widget do you have? Try a different power cord and check all the connections. If that doesn't work please feel free to contact us again.

Really? Really!!!!!???? :banghead:

I'm not convinced there is a tech person involved in these cases. With some support pages you have enter some sort of description which beings up some info that may be relevant. You have to go through this before you get a form or an email link. I think in these cases, they're just burping out the preset support article they assume you didn't read. That might be pretty effective for a lot of their cases. Like when you could solve 95% of PC issues with CNTL-ALT-DELETE.
