DP10 major fade bug

Post by hammerman »

I am unable to create custom fades at all in DP10 and any project with custom fades created in DP9 and opened in DP10 loses them and they default to a smaller equal fade. For example 1 sec before splice and 10ms after splice results in a 10ms fade for both. If anyone with DP10 can create a custom fade by selecting a region, please let me know. MOTU has a test file from me. Thanks.

I tested several older projects with fades and created new ones in new projects and it seems to be fine here. In the fades dialogue box be sure you have FADE SELECTED TIME RANGES and not CREATE FIXED LENGTH FADES.

I use both all the time and cannot fade a selected time range. It defaults to a small, symmetrical fade and there is plenty of audio material. Perhaps a preference issue as I still have DP9.

Is SNAP TO GRID enabled? (the little box at the top right of the edit screen)

Not enabled. I will also test on my laptop which is a stripped-down system.

Not related to fades, but the wiper wants to snap to the timeline grid regardless of whether the box is checked or not.

Dont'cha just love being a beta tester, and it only costs us a lousy $195. Seriously, how does some of this stuff get past the beta testers? Or do they just not fix it? :smash:

I'm able to edit old fades and create new fades. Can double click on the fade and change fade curves etc. All works the same whether or not the grid button is on.

I thought it might be a separate snap option, but no; here, if the grid box is checked the wiper snaps to the correct time points, if the grid box is not checked, the wiper moves freely. There must be some other setting that needs to be right.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, I have never experienced the wiper snapping to the grid. The wiper has always be free for me, and that's how I'd like to keep it. In other words, I'd like the wiper to always ignore grid snapping.

Is that a new behavior?

Its new behavior on my system. If I hold the cmd key down it doesn't snap. I looked all over the place for a preference of setting to no avail. Not the end of the world, but kind of a PITA.

Yes, the behaviour of the playback wiper, snapping to the grid, is a new "feature". Any means of overriding snap will turn it off. Would make more sense if this had its own control so you can leave the grid active for editing but not the playback wiper. I changed the grid to quarter notes and that makes it less aggravating.

MOTU confirmed that it is a bug. It's a major one. I also tested on my laptop and got the same results. I don't understand how such an obvious bug got through this release. I like everything else about DP10 though!

I don't understand why I'm not seeing it. I'm not doubting you for a moment, I just don't get it. Kudos to MOTU for recognizing. Again, I see an update to DP 10.01 fairly soon with all these beta testers now onboard.

Weird. I did some fades again today with no issues. Anyway, it'll get fixed.
