Interface Daisy Chaining (828 MKII)

Post by JamesR69 »

Hi all,

For around 3 years now, I have been using an 828 MKII (USB) interface and it has served me and my setup well - however - over the past year, my setup has grown in size and complexity and I find myself in need of more ins and outs.

I am aware that some MOTU devices can be daisy chained together in order to create an aggregate device which combines the channels of both Interfaces. Is this possible with the 828MKII - specifically the rarer USB model? If so, would i need to chain it to another MKII or would I be able to connect it to a MKIII?

Thank you in advance for any time, help, or advice.

Kind Regards,
James

(p.s. if its important, I am also a Mac user)

You should be able to Command Click on multiple interfaces in DP (if using DP) or use "Aggregate Devices" to accomplish what you seek.

OTOH, unless you have already done so, you can increase the analog I/O on your 828 by using an optical expander, which could be any one of numerous devices, anything from another 828 (connected with optical cables) to one of the eight channel Mic Pres with optical output made by PreSonus, Focusrite, or others. The advantage of this approach is you get all your I/O in one CueMix, the CueMix provided by your current 828mkII.
