Security Update 2018-2 10.13.6

Before applying this update I did a search for issues. On the Apple forum there are several pages of instances where the update did not complete correctly and Macs could no longer be restarted. For others, it has become necessary to go into recovery mode and reset the OS for every start. This is what happened to my Macs with El Cap. Apparently this was fixed with El Cap somewhere around the 4th update.

I suppose this makes your Mac bullet proof when it comes to security, much like attaching a shredder to the out tray on your printer.

Hmmmm... have not experienced it in High Sierra on any of the Macs that I maintain (yet?). Since it's two weeks old, now, I'm hoping that I don't.

I did have an issue on one Mac in El Cap — my test drive — but only for the 2018–002 (El Capitan) Security Update. Booting in Recovery mode and reinstalling the OS fixed it right up. The 2018-003 and 004 updates did not have that problem.

Some of the schools are still using early 2009 iMacs and El Capitán was the last OS that would run. Hopefully, district IT will figure out that OS support has been discontinued and to push will be on to replace those machines.

It just worked on my laptop, which I tried it on because this Mac is quick and easy to restore if things go wrong, unlike the DP iMac which requires many hours of plugin and app re-authorization.

Even so, it took a long time and the process included a few restarts and the loud buzzing sound that happens when you do firmware updates.

Depending on the deals on Black Friday I might replace the iMac in question with a new Mini, so for now, I'll just leave it alone.

Apparently one of the recommended solutions is to install Mojave.
