The choices in Find Tempo are based on the meter of the sequence. For example if the meter is 3/4, choosing a whole note for "Compare Hits to closest" will look for downbeats followed by two quarter notes.

When doing composition for film it's common to have meter changes all over the place so downbeats of bars line up with video hits. Therefore for the Find Tempo function you probably wouldn't want to choose a whole note for "Compare Hits to closest". Instead a more common technique would be to set that parameter to quarter notes. Then if you find a hit on the fourth beat of a 4/4 bar and you want that to be the downbeat of the next bar, you'd add a meter change of 3/4 to the bar that contained the beat. That beat would then be the downbeat for the next bar.

If your current sequence is in 4/4 time (default), finding beats based on quarter notes will show hits based on 4/4 resolution. For example, if the sequence tempo is 4/4 and a hit is found that at a specific tempo would fall on the third beat of a 4/4 bar it will be displayed as such in the Find Beats results window. However you can ignore the beat number if you intend to change meter later.

Thank you Dave! I got it.
What I could not understand is the "offset" settings in find tempo... What does offset means? I have RTFM, but still could not understand what's it used for?

Happy to help!

Offset refers to the start of the range where you want to find tempo for hits. In the upper left corner of the Find window is a Start button and bar/beat location. By default the start of the range is the start of the sequence (1I1I000). If you leave that at default the find window considers the start of the sequence to be the beginning of the range you want to find tempos for. But perhaps you don't want to look for tempos starting at the beginning of the sequence. You could enter a different location and the Find window starts looking for tempos at that location. Pressing the start button enters the current counter location as the start point.

In some cases, moving the start time allows for more accuracy in finding subsequent hits. Lets say you want to start finding tempos as the opening credits roll. You may be ok with starting the sequence a little earlier or later. Therefore you can allow an offset of the sequence start. This allows the start point to be changed (in reference to SMPTE) so the following hits can be more accurate. When the Find window looks for tempos any offset will be displayed in the lower section of the window.

This is all described on page 727 of the DP User Guide.
