How do I slightly detune some audio?

Post by tunefool »

Hi,
I've been trying to slightly detune some audio of some slow piano notes in DP9. I actually want the notes to be slightly out of tune. When I go to edit it pitch, it seems to allow only shifting of pitch by semitones. How do I make subtle changes in pitch, altering it by cents?

Thanks for any info.

Obviously you'd be making a duplicate track and detuning one against the other. You can drag the pitch up for one and down for the other if you'd like to keep the "average" pitch centered.

The key (pun not intended) is to hold down the COMMAND key whilst you drag. That'll let you move more smoothly. If you zoom way in vertically, that'll give you some more control.

Thanks! That's exactly the solution I was looking for.

More than one way to approach this.

PSP PianoVerb reproduces special kind of reverberation originally provided by piano strings. It generates reverberation using twelve string operators with adjustable damping and decay time. Each of them is tuned to a particular note starting from A(55Hz) to a G#(103.8Hz). The PSP PianoVerb string system can be transposed in the range of +-24 semitones, tuned within a range of +-100 cents and be detuned as well. Transposing to lower octaves produces a bigger and less resonant sound similar to traditional reverbs, while in turn transposing to higher octaves produces a very bright harp-like effect.

PSP PianoVerb1 is available for free for all who have an active account at our user area. To get access to the plug-in and your unique authorization details simply open (or log-in to) your account at our user area. Enjoy!

You can also transpose audio and specify a value in cents.

. Is there some way to do this other than the way Stubbsonic mentioned? That method seems to be the way to detune particular notes, which is what I want to do. I don't want to detune the whole track.

Well you can use lasso select to only grab the pitch handles of the notes you want to detune.
