DP9 suddenly not reading old WAV files
Hi, just noticed a disconcerting issue last night when I tried to load a project last night that worked fine the previous time I tried it last year. For some reason the WAV files would not load into playable soundbites as they did when I created the project. When I hit play there is nothing but horrible loud static.
The original WAV files were exported from my old VS2480. I've successfully loaded these into DP for years. I checked a couple old projects that used similar files and they played back fine, but for some reason projects I imported in this manner during the last year or so are having similar problems.
It's a head scratcher because as I said the projects have been playing back with no problems until now. At first I wondered if it had to do with my switching my interface to Apollo Twin from my original 828 this week. I rebooted and got the 828 working again but still the problem files would not load.
I also wondered if somehow the files got corrupted. So I brought a backup hard disk with copies of the files into work today and plugged it into my new RMBP. Same problem, files won't load, static with DP9. I tried dragging the WAV files into a new DP9 project but they don't 'take'.
When I went into the Audio Files folder I noticed that the WAV files have 'play' buttons when you scroll over them. Sure enough, when I hit play the file plays back fine. So I booted up Logic. I dragged the file into Logic and it loaded and played back with no problem.
This is mondo befuddling. I can't remember when I switched to DP9 but it seems like it's been a good while and I'm sure I either played back or even originated these song files successfully in DP9 before. Did something change in the latest update? Any ideas welcome!!

I noticed I haven't updated my sig in a while but I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5 and using DP 9.02.

If you created the project on another machine and copied over without using file import, time machine or zipping the folder first, you can have this problem.
Do a GetInfo on your project folder. Make certain that all of the users have read and write privileges and that your admin account is listed. Check Apply to files... That fixed most of mine when I had this issue.

Re: DP9 suddenly not reading old WAV files
Thanks Mike... I performed the above procedure on the main folder, on the song project folder, and the Audio Files folder for the project. Everything is/was listed as read and write for all, but I did click the 'apply to enclosed items' in each case. No love yet. The tracks rotate flashing like they want to load but don't.mikehalloran wrote:If you created the project on another machine and copied over without using file import, time machine or zipping the folder first, you can have this problem.

I must mention that in hooking up the Apollo Twin I used one of my iMac's Thunderbolt ports. I previously had the hard disk in question connected to that port (FW via TB adaptor). I dismounted my external drives and shut off the iMac, then daisy chained that drive to another FW drive on my other Thunderbolt port. Should probably have powered down the drives before I did that, but thought I was good as they were dismounted first and the iMac was down. I just noticed that when the files are trying to load, the lights on both drives on that port start blinking.
The curious thing is that everything else on both drives is working fine, and I'm able to access my audio files in all the other projects on that particular drive except for the folder in question, which I haven't used in probably at least a month or so.

Re: DP9 suddenly not reading old WAV files
Thanks for turning me on to Import Audio. I was able to import the audio files into a new project where they now play back fine.
I did a 'get info' on the WAV files in the original folder and the default app to open the file was iTunes. I could change this to DP but don't know if that makes a difference. It's like iTunes took over my files... like I said, I was able to play the WAV files in my other computer as they had play buttons.
Odds are I won't have to remix a lot of the tunes in the problem folder, but I still want to figure out why I can't load the files as I did before without having to redo everything.

Re: DP9 suddenly not reading old WAV files
Good. I have a half dozen or more solutions to this problem but each is more time consuming. Some involve trying to repair the headers while others strip and replace the headers—I don't know which Import Audio does but it's one or the other. Thanks for turning me on to Import Audio. I was able to import the audio files into a new project where they now play back fine.
I first encountered it in DP 7.24 and spent days trying to figure it out. MOTU told me that all of my files were corrupt but they played fine in DP 5–7.01. Anyway, glad you have it working.

You're a good man, Mike. I think I speak for many many others when I say you are one of the shining lights on this forum, making it worth (much more!!) than the price of admission.mikehalloran wrote:Good. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge so unselfishly.
