custom consoles question

Post by musicman691 »

Okay - I know custom consoles have been known to have issues. That being said I'm wondering if what I have is due to that or might there be something else I need to look at?

Specifically in a project I have a custom console setup to work with MIDI cc7 and MX4 in DP9.01. This is so far the only project I'm using MX4 in. It's an older one before I learned to use MIDI cc7 to control the MIDI track fader. The problem I'm running into is this console interferes with the latter usage across every MIDI track in the project and not just the instrument track that with MX4 on it. To my mind with them being two different tracks one shouldn't affect the other right? So like I asked earlier - is this just another muck-up due to custom console implementation or do I have other demons I have to look for?

I'm not sure, but to me it sounds like there is a conflict between DP's regular MIDI track sliders and the Custom Console faders you are using to control volume. If both are sending CC7s it will get wonky.

Though you can have more than one track, if they are sending to the same MIDI channel, it will be a conflict.

Perhaps you could look into disabling all the custom console CC7's and just use the MIDI track faders for that particular task.

The latter is what I ended up doing.

Are you saying that a custom console, even if it is set specifically for just one track, that it could interfere with another track? That's what seems to be happening.

The CC7's should be channel specific, so you wouldn't have one track interfering with another unless you and more than one track assigned to the same MIDI channel-- which can happen with drum tracks, sometimes.

However, the sliders in the custom console could be conflicting with the sliders that are just always available for a MIDI track in the mix window.

Everything's on separate MIDI channels and separate vi's.

Thanks for the help.

Have a safe and happy New Year!
