relatively minor issues for my situation, but...

Post by kdhymes »

Here are the 3 quirky issues I've had with 9.01.
1. Mix window doesn't draw properly, but is fixed by closing DP and re-opening it.
2. Occasionally does not recognize Audio Express i/o without restarting both, despite doing things in the "proper order. Oddly, this has become less frequent despite no updates.
3. Occasional, but highly frustrating issue with incoming audio level - it peaks at about -48db and doesn't respond to any changes on i/o, despite checking all settings (not that I changed any), and confirming that Audio Express is functioning properly by testing it separately. I fixed this problem (too late for the particular session) in an odd way: created test project, set up for recording, proper audio level responsiveness to i/o levels was restored. I thought, "project must have been corrupted somehow," opened it up prepared to try to copy soundbites to new project. Lo and behold, that project had no problems. Easy "fix" with no apparent logic behind it, but then I'm not an "under the hood" guy, just a musician who uses DAWs.

None of these is a deal-breaker, as I don't have clients over my shoulder, and the program functions amazingly well other than these relatively minor issues. It beats the pants off the competition in my opinion, in flexibility, reliability, intelligibility, documentation, included resources, and just sheer fun of creation. So, not whining, and I fully realize that motu is pretty responsive overall.

I will say that my collaborator/mixing engineer in another city has had nothing but grief for a month since switching to El Capitan, but it is pretty unclear even now, after restoring almost all functionality, where the problems originated. His rig is vastly more complex than mine, so I won't try to speculate on that situation any further, except to say that if others have experienced issues related to the OS update, any insight would be greatly appreciated, as the late stages of tracking my album have been slowed down by his difficulties.

I would reinstall DP9, reboot and repair permissions.

Yeppers, good suggestion, I'll try that. Probably would have done that already except that the problems aren't work-stoppers with the exception of that occasional issue. And btw, my guy in Philly is up and running with no problems now, it appears that an external drive was at fault, or at least involved (possibly recent updates had an effect on its function, according to informed sources over my level of understanding).

DP9 is absolutely awesome in my opinion, it has been a joy so far working on an album in this environment. We're using dropbox to share project files (a bit sluggish on the larger stuff, but it's mostly one way transfer - I track stuff as far as I'm going with it, he gets the project file, we have all the same instruments, he adds horns and other stuff, replaces fake drums with real, and mixes it, sends me mp3s for approval). Just staggering the distance this stuff has come in the last few years.
