DP 9.0.1 not remembering Commands settings

Post by Gravity Jim »

This is strange, mostly because it's been happening since I installed the Raven.

DP9 reverts to a set of Key Bindings that includes a set of MIDI notes for transport control... even more remarkable that these are right in the middle of the MIDI note range. When these MIDI notes are in place in the Commands window, my Keylab stops sounding notes at those positions and starts running the transport. This also disables the Raven transport controls... as if the MIDI note commands take precedence over the ket commands that are also in place.

Removing the MIDI notes from those commands fixes it... but later, they come back!

Any guesses?

Could the Raven be merging key bindings when you open DP? Still, that wouldn't explain why the MIDI transport commands are enabled right in the middle of your range. Slate would not have put such commands in that location.

Could there be a folder of templates for the Raven that somehow are getting involved?
Is DP defaulting to an older Preferences folder? I know that for a while there were two DP preferences folders in my System Library, but only one of them actually was being used. Could the Raven be accessing the wrong one? (could it be accessing them at all?)

Strange problem. You may have to call Slate and MOTU for this one... preferably on a conference call.

I think this is a Mackie Control thing. It's happened to me a couple times.. like you said, keyboard notes like middle C, etc.

Never could figure out exactly why, but it would happen when I would do an install of the MCU driver, and/or update Java (another thing my console uses). I just go into commands and find them and delete them.

In the Commands window mini menu there's an option "Add chunk selection commands automatically". Make sure it's not checked and see if that works.

Raven does run of HUI which involves MIDI so I hope there is no conflict there. Also, Raven does use some custom key command bindings, so this could be the issue. We will be sure to remove the MIDI notes from the commands in the next update.. But when I delete these, they don't seem to come back.. Try dragging this
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxfDDi ... sp=sharing

into your /Users/supaman/Library/Preferences/com.motu.DigitalPerformer
just option click the go menu to get to the user library and replace the command bindings with this one..

hope this helps..

Thanks, Jamey. I've communicated the Key Commands thing (no file with the DP version except one that appears to be for Logic) to Trevor and Matt, so I'm sure they're hip to it as well.

Thanks for the replies, ya'll. I'm definitely checking out frank's suggestion. Shoeshine, those are all good educated guesses: the Raven manual instructs one to load a file of key commands, but as mentioned above, this version seems to have come with the wrong file. This does happen after a reinstall, so it may be something that Raven is loading.

UPDATE FOR FUTURE USERS: It is definitely the Mackie thing that Killahurts mentioned (here and in another thread, which is the only reason I even found it). If I reinstall Raven (which is a Mackie device just like Universal Control), the notes come back and the transport goes whack. If I don't, they don't come back.

Oh gawd! I remember that terrible feature. Creates havoc until you figure out what's causing it.
