UVI-Xtract batch processing sucks

Post by Backround »

I have a large library I want to convert into Mach Five with multiple file levels. UVI-Xtract only sees into ONE folder and will not see beyond multiple folder levels. I CANNOT map this complex file structure by hand unless I wanna spend ALL DAY. Any other suggestions or experiences with this? Oh yea...I'm trying to map the Opus 1 symphonic library by Horizon. It's already extracted from the DVD to my harddrive and UVI-Xtract batch processing still will not see everything.

Currently, M5 v1.2 doesn't accommodate VSL or other multi-layered, key-triggerable Gigasamples very well.

You should be able to import the sounds just fine, but things like switching articulations are not easily facilitated. Like you say, it could take you a long time to set it up the way you like it.

Supposedly, the new M5 v2 will allow better assimilation of such files. Check out www.motu.com for info. Version 2 promises a lot of good improvements. They say it will ship sometime soon.

Bear in mind, at this moment, M5 is only at version 1 stage. It can do a lot, but not everything. Version 2 should take us closer.

Bottom line for me...

I bought Mach Five to use with Opus 1 only. That is not working well for me. If I have to pay for version 2 which MAY fix it...i will be pissed.

Has anyone else tried calling Motu tech support today??? Line has been busy ALL DAY.

The thing is...I purchased the first version with a promise of ESX24 and Giga support. After reading their website and about version 2 I see that they call full compatibility a "enhancement". See below -

"Enhanced Giga and EXS24 library support••”The just-mentioned layering feature allows MachFive Version 2 to provide much better support for the use of sample libraries in the Giga and EXS24 sample formats."

Yeah, I've read it.

Like I said, the current M5 will allow you to use ESX24 and Giga samples -- it should import and UVI-convert them. Just not all their complementary goodies.

Awkward, yeah. Manageable, maybe barely. But usable.

BTW: I'm not trying to defend MOTU on this one; I'm not on their P.R. payroll. I'm just saying it's a growing app and it's hard to meet all user expectations out-of-the-gate on a first version.

Note: If, by some wild luck, you bought M5 v1 on or after January 20, the upgrade to v2 is free. If not, hopefully the upgrade is low-price.

This is my first lengthy introduction to Motu with the purchase of Mach Five. The software documentation led me to believe that this software could do something that it cannot. Also, their tech support has been lacking with solutions or even a system to help me. Let's hope for their own sake in keeping me and people like me as customers that they will keep their upgrade price low. Otherwise I will leave Motu like a horrible girlfriend and never look back.

Motu, if your reading this...i think it's your turn to do the dishes.
