Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.

Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.
I purchased a Mac with OS-X, 10.4 and this operating system is new to me. The installation of Unisyn 2.11 seemed to go okay except I never got a DEVICE window after the installation. I'm unable to setup the PROFILE of my synth. I did setup the MIDI connection in the Audio MIDI Setup window successfully. Opening the profile folder in Unisyn and selecting Ensoniq and ESQ-1, I get the error message "not compatible with any devices". Again, MIDI connection working, program doesn't recognize keyboard. Will pay for help in getting Unisyn to function.
Re: Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.
Can you add a device from the Unisyn "Devices" menu? I'm unclear if this is initially how you opened the folder.

Yes, I can add a device. Forget what I said about profiles. Somebody said they don't matter. I need help on installing, period. I've got a device and MIDI interface setup but no way to launch the activity of getting MIDI from synth to computer.
Re: Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.
The profiles certainly do matter, what's more, Unisyn is picky about the names as entered on the Audio MIDI Setup. The names should agree with the profile and device name. Double click on the device name in the device window and make sure the channels and device ID are set. (ID 1 usually works for me.) Open a Device window, select an item, and then "Get Selected Items" from the MIDI menu. You should then be able to "Send Selected Items".

Re: Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.
The "Get Selected Items" option requires a bulk dump from your synth. The synth will not know how to provide this info if the correct profile is not selected. The Bulk Dump request is SysEx.

If Bulk Dump on your synth is disabled, none of this will work.

On an ESQ-1, there is no "able-disable". You hit MIDI send an it sends everything. I get no device window---the one that happens after things are setup in AudiMidi.
Re: Help installing keyboard profile in Unisyn--will pay.
There is a generic SysEx profile that should act solely as a dump recorder, but you will not have the ability to use Unisyn as an editor.

I only want to be able to look at the settings of certain patches.

Then you will have to have the correct synth profile installed.coug64 wrote:I only want to be able to look at the settings of certain patches.

Correct.
The only reason I haven't even unboxed my copy is that the available profiles at the time didn't cover my gear, as I was informed they would.
Ironic that now the gear is different and the profiles should work... except that I can't install it.
Still hangin' out for MOTU to do something. The assets are there. The app is "small". The user base, whilst not huge, is passionate and will be loyal. Oh, and it's open to expansion as IMHO UniSyn would smoke the competition in terms of cost, install-size, reliability and performance.

You could be waiting a while, Nicky. The opportunity for MOTU has been slipping away for many years, and there can't be much left. Unisyn started life as Dr. T's X-oR written for the Atari ST by Bob Melvin nearly 30 years ago. It could be in need of a total rewrite, not just an update. Who knows what the source code language is, and whether there is anyone left alive that knows it?
The mystery is why MOTU still has this in the catalog of active products, but not Performer and Freestyle.
You'll get an idea of it's length of tooth here: http://tamw.atari-users.net/cage_art.htm
MIDIQuest, OTOH, has been actively updated and supported by its author who appears to work alone out of his house in the rain forest west of Victoria. I was his neighbour a very long time ago.

The OP has already given up and gone to MIDIQuest. He's done with us.
Sounds like he had a frustrating time and couldn't ultimately get up & running with Unisyn.

He PM'd me early on in the piece with a request I couldn't in good conscience grant, but I can confirm that he was very keen.
Pity. Would've been another MOTU user after all...
