Just finished 4 pieces. The reason I got DP was primarily for the video features.
If I have to score to video it will be done in DP. I still like Cubase for other things.
Whenever I take on a new app I have a set number of parameters I like to use then see what the app does well. for the most part I am getting comfortable with DP.
So far I found I like the following.
1. Conductor track. I like tempo mapping, markers temp finder, and video.
2. MIDI Options like Humanize, shift, transpose. seems better then other apps.
3. The dual windows. I like the dual layouts.
4. Automation. seems smoother to me that cubase
Overall there seems to be one generic workflow with options on that workflow rather then 20 unrelated ways to do something.
What I am having issues with is MIXING. I cant seem to get the right layout for metering. I am spending way to much time scrolling the meter bridge around to find what I am mixing.
I noticed too there is no metering for K system or loudness ??! Is that correct?
Anyhow I looking at some tutorials and the manual for ideas. If anyone has any good tips for layouts/ergonomics when mixing I am all ears.
Thanks in advanced
Mike

Re: DP first impressions
Concerning the K-metering system there's none built in but there are lots of good options out there (both free and commercial). I use Insigt, primarily to keep track on my levels throughout the soundtrack of a movie during mixdown in order to stay within the limits imposed by the client (TV station, Cinema).
For the mixing I rely heavily on folders. I group my tracks into folders and sub folders. I then use AUX busses to group instruments a lot. I do my gain staging using VU meters from PSP.
In the mixer you can make visible only the tracks in given folders. To quickly select on track or folder and hide the others ALT click on it. If a folder is closed you will further need to open it in order to show the tracks included in it.

Re: DP first impressions
I would also love having k-metering as an option for the master fader meter (it's nicer than needing to use an insert/extra window).
Re: scrolling through the mixer, i also use folders, and the selector window with the mixer. That works pretty well, and helps keep the arrangement and mixer pretty sane. For the meter bridge, it's unfortunate that the track selector panel doesn't work there...that'd probably make your life easier as well.
In the end, I'd probably prefer the mixer's meters to be able to resize so that the strips fill the window. Of course, i don't use many inserts or whatnot, so for me, larger meters on the mixer would be more useful than empty space that's not used at all.

When it really matters, you can always fire up the Meter Bridge, and place it immediately above a stripped down Mixer.kelldammit wrote:larger meters on the mixer would be more useful than empty space that's not used at all.
