So I added a Maxtor 160gig drive to my G4. No problems there...a ll tite getting all the cables to fit and all...I also put in a PCI card that put 2 ide ports in at 133. I guess the internal ide bus is at 66. Now I want to replace my original drive. My question...does the boot drive have to plug into the original ide port or can I boot from one of the new 133 ports on the card? The card is a Sonnet Tempo ATA 133 controller card. So far audio running of the maxtor is working out well.
oooo ..and I guess i should get myself a copy of Carbon Copy to replace that original drive. Does that just put a copy of my boot drive onto another drive for me? Lke a firewire drive? That would be cool. I dont feel like spending a day installing OSx again.
Thanks for your help!!

Re: G4 and a new hard drive question
I just tried Carbon Copy Cloner and it worked great. It copied and put it on the HD of my choice.
Warning I was going to buy a Sonnet card, but got confirmed from them that they are not bootable so I bought a "Seritek" card which is bootable and 64 bit compatible.
So now I have:
4 WD installed and so far I'm a happy camper and feel safe.
3-74 gb Raptors with a 5 year warranty
1-160gb Caviar with a 3 year warranty
So now I have my complete operation system on two HD's My main one, plus on another. My Caviar is for back-up and the Raptors for everything else.

Re: G4 and a new hard drive question
Not to butt in on your question but I have a simliar one and need to know what to do. I just installed a Western digital 200GB last night and all connections are fine...I am wondering what I do from there? I think I would need to do something within Disk utility but I have no idea what to do next. Anyone with any help on this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You don't have to do anything unless you want to partition the drive or use it as your start up.
