Mac Mini reasonably with 16 -24 tks of DP ?

Hello,
Does anyone have experience working with a Mac Mini with MOTU/DP? and find that it works fine?
I am moving up to MAC from PC based due to the work I have done in both studios ( up to 48 tracks or takes)is all in MOTU and I want to be able to listen back and edit/clean up the tracks after receiving the songs on CD and inputing into my computer, thus allowing me to edit and decide on tracks and takes so I can get all that decisionmaking done before I go back to the studio with a new edited version/premix and then do a full blown mix. I also want to be able to have tried out different effects and compare mixes at home first. Any suggestions since I want to do this as inexpensively as possible and not have a bunch of technical problems right from the get go. From what it seems the MAC mini is not the ideal but would work just fine. Also, if you know, would I need to get a separate sound card and Mic input and if so does anyone have suggestions in that regard and other related info for someone just getting into this from using a BOSS BR864 and no real music software experience. Thanks very much.
