I've been thinking about getting my wife one of the new powerbooks. It would mostly be for normal consumer use, but I would occasionally use it for some mobile multitracking. However, I'm more than a little hesitant about getting a new computer that still is running a 167mhz bus speed. It's not going to be my main studio computer, but if I need it two years down the road to do a mobile session, I want it to be able to multitrack without giving me errors. I hesitate to wait 6 months for a stable G5 powerbook lineup, and am not looking to spend the extra money for a G5. Advice? And does anyone know how a 167mHz bus speed translates in PC terms? I work for Dell, and even our low end notebooks have a 533mHz bus.

Re: powerbook advice
I had the chance to have a notebook satellite of 3 ghz with 533 mhz bus speed to try, and i still prefer my powerbook g4 800 mhz with a 133mhz bus speed over it, it is more stable and no crack in the sound but of course uhave less power in the g4.Originally posted by mortvillefugitive:

. I think the level 2 annd 3 cache help a lot in audio, especially in real time calculating. u still need good hard drive for ur needs though, and it is a must.

Re: powerbook advice
I think you're right about the caches. I'll definitely use a firewire drive to do any major projects, I wouldn't trust an internal drive for that. Thanks for the advice!
