Cannot authorize DP 7.24 under Mavericks 10.9.2 - RESOLVED

Post by James Steele »

So I buy a used MacBook 7,1 on Craiglist to get around problems I'm having trying to run DP 7.24 on my old iBook G4 with anemic RAM and running Leopard. So this MacBook as Mavericks 10.9.2 on it. DP 7.24 will not authorize. I type in my correct Key Code when prompted (same one that worked when I installed on the iBook G4) and it keeps prompting me to enter it again. Ugh... I'll try a permissions repair and go again, but it looks like I'll have to find out how well DP 8 will work on this MacBook with only 2GB RAM. Sigh.

Long shot... can you boot from a SL machine or disk in target mode and authorize from the remote machine or drive to the new drive? I bet that would work.

I think I figured out what it was. Somehow, my user name wasn't listed in the permissions and didn't have permission to write to the main hard drive. Go figure. Not sure how that happens. Anyway, I've already installed and authorized DP8. And go figure... there is no "Uninstall" option on the DP8.06 Full installer, so I'm loathe to try to install DP 7.24 over it because... well... it's just messy. However, I'm thinking DP 7.24 may run better on this MacBook because it is still 4 years old after all.

If it were me, I'd put 7.24 on it.

I thinks it's the most stable of all the (32 bit) versions.

I was leaning that way myself, however, I just did a quick test and all seems well. I'm using just a few audio tracks, one MIDI track (just for patch changes). I have plenty of time to stress test this for a while and see if I should be worried, so I'll hold off putting 7.24 on it. I also ran it in 64-bit mode and seemed fine too.

I'm using it with a Presonus Audiobox 44VSL interface that I also found on Craiglist. So far, DP 8.06 is running fine on this MacBook 7,1, and I'm not losing communication with the Audiobox. Also using DP Control and creating an adhoc network between iPad and MacBook. Seems good so far as well.

Did you go to the MOTU site and download the updater driver? I was putting 7 on my MBP that had Lion on it and I had to download the 7.24 updater to get it to authorize.

Yep... I had already installed DP 7.24. The issue was that my main account did not have read/write permissions for the disc, so it couldn't create the authorization file on the disc. Even still, by the time I figured it out I installed DP 8.06 and that's working just fine.
