I stumbled across this recording of the Emerson SQ. Since I do my recording as a hobby, I don't have all that much breadth in mic placement experience. Love the mix of this link:

The two overheads are obvious, and the near field on the cello is too. Can anyone see other mics on the two violins or viola?

Thanks for posting, that was very interesting. Superb performance. I didn't see any other mics than what you've mentioned. I think that having the violist on the right in combination with the three standing players allows them to be as close as possible to each other as they could be, hence also optimally close to the overheads for the upper strings.
