I'm a little out of the loop here regarding our software life-cycle. Are we due for an upgrade anytime soon?
My new Mac Pro has just shipped from Texas.
Now the not so fun part. Upgrading everything. Loads of plug-ins
AND
My last system was set up with DP 7.1 on a G5, non 64 bit.
Feel free to dispense any advice here.

If I was guessing, we'll have a few more maintenance releases, 8.07, 8.08. Then a more substantial 8.1 update that will be more stable, reliable, fully functioning.
The Mac OS upgrade was surprisingly rough for some folks. I can't imagine that makes work easy for the folks at MOTU. I'm much more sympathetic about that stuff than I used to be.
I think you will find the process of upgrading your hardware to be MOSTLY fun as you will delight in the speed & responsiveness. Especially given that installing things is so much faster now than ever.
HAVE FUN!!!

Agree with the above poster .... some maintenance updates, then 8.1. My completely uninformed guess would be a DP 9 release next Jan at NAMM.
I was one of those who had major problems with the initial Mavericks release. Make sure you have all your plugs/drivers up to date. I waited until Mav 10.9.2 was released to reinstall and am now stable and happy with the OS.

Why yes! I just saw "DP9" on a thread in the main DP forum. That's usually a sign that it's going to be out within the next year or two.
Oh wait... that was THIS thread. Oh well, same difference. Yeah, mark my words, in a year or two (or even three) we'll all be using DP9.

I keep getting latency in CA, WA, and CO. Must be a regional thing.
