Re: firewire ?
Mac Minis still have a firewire port plus Apple makes a TB to firewire adapter. If you end up going with a dock, I'd recommend this from CalDigit http://www.amazon.com/CalDigit-Thunderb ... 01&sr=8-12. I use this with a Mac Mini - I have one firewire port on the Mini and then another off the dock via an Apple TB adapter. The thing works great with Mavericks - no drivers, just plug in and all ports are live. The CalDigit unit is the only I've seen with an additional TB port for expansion. For those with older TB Minis with USB 2.0 this gives you three USB 3.0 ports (which I'm now transitioning to for session drives). You can pick up good USB 3.0 external cases for less than $20 which accept both SSD and traditional 2.5" drives.

Re: firewire ?
I bought one of the Apple TB>Firewire cables for my new MP.
My interface is a Mackie 1640i which is FW 400. I have a FW 400>FW 800 cable, the FW 800 goes into the FW>TB cable, TB into my new MP, and everything works just fine.

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.
