Need help using DP with Screenflow and Soundflower please

Post by Steve Steele »

Hey guys - I searched before I posted and saw a bunch of hits but it was taking forever to go through. Very frustrated at the moment. Spent the past 10 - 12 hours trying to figure this out.

Ok, so I'm getting back into doing YouTube tutorials. I want to capture some DP sessions. I've got ScreenFlow and Soundflower, and am running Mavericks.

I had no problem setting up Screenflow and Soundflower to capture a Logic session. I set it up in 5 minutes and captured a perfect video, with great audio.. But there's one big difference between DP and Logic. In Logic's audio hardware setup you can define an input and an output device. So I can output Logic to Soundflower directly and ScreenFlow just records that. Done. Easy.

However, in DP's Hardware Setup there is no input/output audio device. So I tried creating an Aggregate Device in the Audio MIDI setup with my 896HD and Soundflower. First, I should add that one of the main output of my 896HD is fried so I send mains out of outputs 7-8, and that maybe the issue although I checked all speaker configs everywhere.

Anyway, I tried every combination under the sun with Aggregate Device setups, Multi-Output setups, and yes, I configures the speaker outputs to analog 7-8. I spent the whole day (12 hours) trying to figure out how to get Screenflow to capture DP's audio. It will capture my incoming voiceover fine, just not the audio from DP. I tried ever combination of outputs with the Soundflowerbed app, and re-checked everything in the Audio MIDI Setup, Sound prefs, DP, MOTU Audio Setup, Screenflow and Soundflower. I enabled resampling to compensate for drift, everything.

There's nothing on the internet about how to get DP to work with Screenflow that I can find, yet i know some of you guys are doing it all the time.

I even tried Soundflower and Quicktime and it captured screen and audio of everything but DP.

Would someone please be kind enough to give me the instructions setting this up? If i'm just doing something wrong, then it'll be an easy fix.

Thanks

Are you saying that Soundflower does not show up as an audio device in DP Hardware Setup but it does show up in AMS as an available device?

I figured it out. I just took me a minute to see the correct signal flow. I made a video - "How to setup ScreenFlow with Digital Performer 8" that I'll post this weekend.
