Pop and buzz when starting at measure 1

Post by gallospole »

Using DP 8.05…copied a selection of tracks to a new sequence/chunk…at measure 1…hit play and a screeching sound occurs pinning the meters then stops a few seconds later…rebooted my MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5…rebooted my MOTU 828 MkIII Hybrid…and it happens again at measure 1…if I start at any other measure, the problem does not occur…

Next test…checked the soundbites…no corruption…they play fine when clicked on

Next test…disconnected the MOTU 828 MkIII to use Apple's built in audio…the problem happens again at measure 1…any other measure it does not occur…

Next test…trashed MOTU's Preferences file in the Library folder...the problem happens again at measure 1…any other measure it does not occur…

Next test…created a new DP Project and loaded the same chunk…the same problem occurs again

Any clues or insights to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

Does the lock up happen with 1 audio track in play mode or does it only happen when multiple audio tracks are toggled on ? If multiple tracks, then through elimination ferret out which track or tracks cause this behavior.

Is the music you're recording a pop tune ?

If so, set the start time of the chunk to bar -1 (or even -2)
If unaware … Project > Sequences > Set Chunk start time

I do this as a matter of habit leftover from days of all my sound sources being
hardware synths and other hardware. Setting things up this way allows any and all program changes and other CC data and automation data in audio tracks to reset to whatever you want prior to actual performance MIDI or audio data begins playing. It also allows the insertion of a stick click count off if recording a pop tune…… (a little more realistic to me than the click sound generated by DP)

If this has no effect, then your audio may be corrupt and you'll either need to re-record some or all of your audio … or, unfortunately, start over.
