Used to be, if a USB MIDI source (Novation ReMOTE SL, for example) got disconnected or powered down for a second, while connected to my MBP running DP, I could just reestablish the (physical) connection, and DP would pick up the MIDI connection. Since I've started using it in 64-bit, I have to quit and restart DP to resurrect the MIDI connection.
Is this the explanation of what's going on, and is there any fix for it if so? Thanks.
PS. When I put DP back in 32-bit mode, I can re-establish a temporarily lost MIDI USB connection by simply unplugging and replugging the USB cable.
PPS. This happens regardless of whether using a powered USB hub or plugging in directly.
PPSS. This happens with a Korg keyboard as well as with the Novation.
PPPSS. This happens with Mainstage v.2.2 also, but not with NI's Pro-53 or Arturia's SEM V.

Re: Hot (USB) Swapping in 64-bit Mode
Wow, I did a google for hot swap usb MIDI, and a motu page came up stating that all Motu MIDI interfaces could be hot-swapped. So I dug into my old gear bin, and pulled out a FastLane -USB. Plugged the ReMOTE SL's MIDI out into the Fast Lane's MIDI in, and the Fast Lane's USB into the MBP, and....well here's where it lapses into a Good Part / Bad Part scenario:
Good Part - I could unplug and replug the USB cable from the MBP, and Bingo! The MIDI began flowing again, quickly.
Bad Part - it is playing scales that would make John Cage cringe. Both in DP and in Mainstage, which also re-recognizes the MIDI connection (that was the Good Part.)
Downloaded the latest MIDI drivers. Gonna see whether that fixes this.
Reinstalling the latest Motu USB/Fastlane Drivers (and restarting) did not make the crazy scales go away.
There's some sort of mad pattern: 12 correct notes, then 4 notes that are transposed up 8 semi-tones, then 12 correct notes, then 4 notes that are transposed up 8 semi-tones, which repeats.
Here is what playing chromatically up from G#3 produces: G#3, A3, A#3, B3, C4, C#4, D4, D#4, E4, F4, F#4, G4, E5, F5, F#5, G5, C5, C#5, D5, D#5, E5, F5, F#5, G5, G#5, A5, A#5, B5, G#6, A6, A#6, B6, E6, F6, F#6, G6, G#6, A6...
Results are the same using a different keyboard, so it's not some misprogramming I may've done on the Novation. Maybe the FastLane's hosed. Too bad, because it solved the hot-swapping issue.
Is there any 64-bit hot swap utility or program that can run side-by-side with DP, to keep a handshake going or something?

Get an SSD for that live rig Tommy. Lightning reboots (combined with the freedom from damage caused physical impact) make for a fast and furious rig.

Re: Hot (USB) Swapping in 64-bit Mode
The HD I have is a hybrid which can Startup in about 30 seconds. Mainstage still takes 1'20" minutes to load though, but, inexplicably, that time varies. But you bring up a good point, HC, and now I do wonder how much quicker a Mainstage boot would be with an SSD installed. The config ("Concert") I use in Mainstage is 21 MB, but when I save it with assets, it's 4.1GB. Maybe one day, like Mike McKnight and Bill St.Amor do, I'll use DP live, as a host to all my VI's, but I do use some Logic instruments (their clav and B3 notably, and a few ES2 synths, and the sampler, which I know, Mach 3 could supplant...) So it would be a pretty big challenge for Soundflower and InterAppMIDI to go that way. A V-Rack, you say?HCMarkus wrote:Get an SSD for that live rig Tommy. Maybe if I can find a 750GB SSD for a good price, it would be a life-saver. Time will tell!
Thanks, HC.
