press and hold key for temporary tool access

Post by aaronlyon »

I got a new iMac (yea, me--my old computer was over 6 years old!). Reinstalled DP8 from scratch. My old shortcut for zooming is not working. Hold letter Z on keyboard.
the control keys for the tools are:

A--Cursor (Marquee Tool)
R--Reshape Tool
P--Pencil Tool
I--Ibeam Tool
S--Scrub Tool
Z--Zoom Tool

Tap and hold the keys to access that tool temporarily, or tap twice to switch to that tool until you make another switch.
Double tapping letter Z is working, but not hold letter.

Any pref settings might solve this?

Getting weirder. SOME of the transport commands I normally use on the numeric keypad are not working! Ones highlighted in orange are not working:

I tried a different keyboard. I tried key shortcuts not on the numeric keypad. Nothing works!

Don't laugh, but sometimes when I try to go to italics, I hit the keys in the wrong order, and it puts me into Korean. Your issue sounds like what might happen if the function-lock key was accidentally depressed on a laptop. Probably no help, but it might get you thinking of something more likely.

Solved. But Not sure how. I created a new user account, logged in to the new account and launched DP. Everything worked correctly. Then I switched back to my regular account...and everything worked! No changes to system.
