B4 II w/ DP 8.0.4 and Mountain Lion?

Has anyone been able to get B4 II working with DP 8.0.4 and Mountain Lion?

I downloaded the B4 II 2.0.4 Installer from NI's site, and actually got it installed and authorized!

I even got it working in Stand Alone mode.

But I can't for the life of me get it to show up as a plugin in DP 8!

I have checked Library->Audio->Plug-Ins->Components and I can see the B4 II.component AU there, but DP won't scan for it on start up and it doesn't show up in the list of plugins in DP under Preferences->Audio Plug-ins.

I even tried installing the VST version, but that doesn't show up in DP either.

So close yet so far! Can anyone help?

Are you running DP in 64 or 32 bit mode? As far as I know B4 II is 32 bit only.

I run B4II in 8.04 and OSX 10.8.4. That said, I interface w/ VEP5 as I've said goodbye to DP 32 bit.

Yep, that was it. I'm running 64 bit. I'm setting up a new system and trying to keep everything 64 bit. So far I've got about 75% of my stuff moved over from old computers, and I'm trying to see how far I can go.

I restarted DP in 32 bit mode and it scanned, examined, and passed B4 II and I was able to load it and play around. But definitely going back to 64 bit mode.

So far B4, Oddity, and Drumcore, are the only 32-bit stragglers I've run across. I imagine Pro-53 will be the same way (assuming I can even get it installed and authorized).

Too bad about B4. Maybe it's time to just move on.

Maybe JBridgeM is an option. Not sure if it's going to be worth it for just these few plugins.

I've still got all this stuff, and a bunch of other orphanware, on an old PC (frozen ca. 2002) which I plan on keeping around just in case I need access to the obsolete past.

jBridgeM is fairly transparent and inexpensive. But it hasn't worked on every plugin, so best to see if anyone has it working on the few you want.

You can download a free trial of JBridgeM, in fact the developer recommends that you do to make sure it works for you. As bayswater says it works for some plugins but not others. For me, it works with IK Multimedia's SampleTank but not the Philharmonik player for example.

I found I'd still got a copy of the B4 II VST in my archive folder, so tried it in JBridgeM and it works fine from a quick test. I'd forgotten what a great VI B4 is.

I don't have Oddity or Drumcore, but I am using Ultra Analog and String Studio with JBridgeM without problems.

P.S. Just found a copy of Pro-53, this bridges fine as well.

Thanks, Chris! I may have to seriously consider JBridgeM.

Part of me thinks that the wiser course is just make a clean break, that I'll spare myself greater heartbreak down the road by not resurrecting orphanware and coming to depend on it again only to someday have it ripped from my sound palette all over again. But, yes indeed, the few minutes I was playing around w/ B4 II reminded me how good it could be. Nothing else like it has really come along.

GSI VB3 sounds great, but last I heard it is not stable in DP, and the developer does not have a copy of DP to test with. And it is also not 64 bit.

I'm only using JBridgeM for VIs that are still being supported, and where there is a least a promise of a 64 bit version. B4 II is a difficult one to replace though.

Well I tested B4 II, and Pro-53, and GForce The Oddity last night w/ JBridgeM and DP 8.0.4 and Mountain Lion. B4 II seemed to work OK. Pro-53 gave me some trouble initially, kept asking to locate the preset file, which I had to do several times over and over. Eventually I had to re-bridge it and it eventually seemed to take.

However, the Oddity was very buggy. Periodically all the on screen controls would go crazy, colorful little sliders sliding up and down all at once. Quite a sight to behold. Never seen anything like it.

Overall JBridgeM seems buggy and less stable than I would like. I'll test with it some more today, but may not be worth it. DP 8 has been crashy enough for me. May need to slow down. Throwing to many new things at it a once.

VEP5 has worked great for me. It's more expensive, but is rock solid and provides other benefits than just being a bridge.
