Vocal Rider slowing down your Mac? Make it vanish! :-)

Post by supersonic »

I use Vocal Rider. A lot. On dialogs in the documentary series I am working on. It gives me the consistent levels throughout the film without using obscene amounts of compression which I dislike. But it does have a lag time in its response so I record it as automation and then shift it a little ahead. So far so good. But then try zooming out to see the larger picture. The amount of points generated by Vocal Rider slows the display to a grinding halt. Even when it is not the principle layer that is shown. What I found worked for me is using View Filter and enabling it for the Vocal Rider's Gain track. As soon as that layer disappears everything returns to normal.

I don't have that problem with Vocal Rider (which I like too) - after I record automation and press 'play' it reads it, but after a while when my mix sounds different, it arbitrarily has forgotten to read it and the fader is stationary. I suppose I could freeze or re-print the vocal, but still...
