replacing 2408 with comparable hybrid

Post by gaucho »

my G5 died today, in case you hear bagpipes. It had a good life. good work ethic.

I just picked up a mac mini. (I know new mac pros are imminent). If I toss out my 2408, I'm thinking the 828 hybrid is the closest comparable non-pci device that will handle 2 light pipes. Is this right?

It looks like the 896 is loaded with analog ins that I wouldn't use. Any other options?

Are people liking the USB?

I've got an 896mk3H and love it, but mostly because I do more analog work and the combo-jack inputs are awesome. Otherwise, 828mk3 is a beast and I would have no problem working along with that unit.

I think the Travelermk3 also has 2 banks of ADAT input? Seems less popular of a unit, but it does have AES/EBU... but no XLR outs.... Oh the choices...

Looks like it comes down to whatever I/O config you need. All mk3 units look robust. Glad to be able to work with one.... Good luck!

Ended happily with the 828.
I'm sure the near future will bring new options but I'm good to go.
