Waveforms not always drawing in 8.03

Post by zandurian »

Mostly they do appear but did some guitar tracks the other day and they play fine but just the straight line (which always appears immediately after you record and are waiting for the graphic representation of the soundbite to show up).

I thought I saw this prob mentioned around here somewhere but couldn't find the thread/post. Any ideas?

So there are these several tracks STILL not representing the waveform. Old tracks are fine, new tracks draw out but these problem ones (which play fine) still can't be seen.

No ideas?

No Zan, me TOO! MagicDave didn't experience this, but here is what I've been able to piece together: If the signal is recorded below -12 (approx), then in Tracks Overview Window, instead of the waveform appearing in the red bar that indicates a track's waveform as it is recording, it's just a flat line. If I increased the signal level significantly, then I often noticed that the illustration of the wave would appear.

I had this concurrent weirdness, where as soon as I hit STOP, the 'real' waveform would appear, but grey not black, in the red bar, but only for an instant; then it would go back to the flat line display. But once I double-clicked on the track's audio wavefile, and was sent to Sequence Window, the waveform would display.

You are NOT alone! (I can just hear Bowie: "Give Me Your Hands!") :vomit:

Thanks for the response. If I make any change to the actual soundfile - even just merging it into itself at the same level - they draw fine. Otherwise they are just sitting there. Softer and louder soundbites around them are fine, just these few which refuse. Very weird.

Why are you still on 8.03 when 8.04 is out?

I don't think 8.04 changed this behavior, not for me anyway.

I don't think it was out when I first posted this, but in any case - 8.04 didn't change the behavior

I have the same problem. As you said the only solution is to do a destructive edit like a merge, & waveforms redraw. Pretty annoying.

If you have a problem with audio waveforms not drawing, go to the Project folder and trash the Analysis Files folder. This will cause DP to redraw all waveforms.

Merging soundbites creates new audio, which is why DP will draw a new waveform for the merged audio. If there is some kind of corruption in an audio file, merging to make new audio is often a fix.

Thanks for the tip Dave ! I was wondering how to force DP to redraw waveforms...

Deleting the analysis folder doesn't solve it for me. I found that the waveforms that wont redraw are the ones where their parent audio files end up in the undo folders of the main project folder. Any way to solve that?

To all who contributed....

Thank you so much. Deleting the analysis files did work to fix this. I was convinced I wouldn't be able to find a solution and it's so awesome to do a google search and find one just like that.

'Tis my first post here at motunation even though I'm a long-time DP user. Will be here more often methinks.

Again, thanks. Good stuff. 8)

I have a different issue, a live recording with really long audio files, it takes a long time to draw the waveform overview and when closing the project, the overview doesn't seem to be saved and they have to be drawn again (which takes 10-15 minutes).

I'm wondering if your background processing is completely finished before you close the project? I don't know how long your files are but I've done 2 hours of 24 track before and on my old g5 it took quite a while to analyze.
