DP -mg file? 7.24 is not retaining soundbite name changes

Post by XXF »

Hello. DP 7.24 is not retaining soundbite names when I drag them into a sequence, and changing the files from .aiff to -mg.

For example, I have a .aiff file on my desktop titled Vocal 1. I retitled it Vocal 2. I dragged it into a sequence, and the soundbite now reads Vocal 1 and it is a -mg file.

Any idea of why it is a mg file, and not .aiff, and why it does not retain the new name?

I am on a 3.2 Quad-Core, OS10.8.3

Thank you.

I believe that when an audio file is created it is named then by DP with a parent name.

Any subsequent renames will show up in your project as whatever you chose to name it, however in the background DP still knows which one it is based on the parent name.

If you drag that file into another sequence it's very likely that it is referring back to the original name.

In your case, you probably did a merge along the way, hence the mg distinction.

I have had experiences where a track may have been recorded as "Audio 1" and then renamed "Bass", for instance.

When I dragged that file into another sequence, it actually overwrote the existing file that also had the parent name of "Audio 1". No recovery, BTW, except go to a backup file and retrieve it.

That has been my understanding and experience. Perhaps others with more file hierarchy knowledge, as it applies to DP, can clarify a bit better.

EDIT: If you want to see it's "real" name, in the Soundbites window on the far right under "FILE" you'll see exactly how DP has named it.

Interesting. Thanks. I did merge the file, but it seems odd that the file would be named after a soundbite merge. This has never happened in previous versions of DP for me. The file name is consistent when I see it on my desktop, and when I go to Get Info. Isn't that now the parent name?
