DP8.03 is crashing on my system.

Post by delcosmos »

Hello guys,

First of all. I really want this to work and the only reason I'm posting this is looking for help.
Yesterday when Radiogal posted about the release of DP8.03 I was so excited and the first thing I did in the morning was download my update.

I installed, repaired permissions, etc, etc.
When I tried to adjust soundbites to sequence tempo (3 audio files from 128 to 130), DP Crashed again.
I'm working on a fresh installed Mac OS 8.0.3. I tried the same task with all the plug ins off and got the same crash.

Guys, what do you think is happening here?

I already sent a tech report to Motu without any luck, so motunation is my only way to share this problem.

Best regards.

delcosmos.

Re: Here, DP8.03 is crashing too.

Post by delcosmos »

I will try with an empty project, starting from nothing, a blank template to see if maybe some routing is doing this.

I sent my crash log to MOTU, maybe they can read there what's happening.

I just want to make clear that I'm not moaning about DP8.03, I'm sure this is related to my own system. I really want to find the problem, DP is the most important thing in my studio. I make a living working with DP and I love it since the first day I started making music on a computer (many, many years ago ha ha ha!).

Best regards,

delcosmos.

delcosmos it says crashed thread 188 if you scroll down the crash report you will find 188 and often can tell what the culprit is from that.

You need to truncate that list and include 188 thread to see it. You might edit it to do so.

Mine doesn't crash with the Kramer TTT plugs, it's just a blank UI in 64 bit (no controls, anything - all white space). So there may be something up with some of the Waves stuff causing problems. They work in 32 bit though. Have you tried updating? The installer is up to v9r11 and Wavesshell 2.2x - somewhere in there. I'm on a different OS.

To the OP - I believe all the PureDSP stuff is related to pitch shifting and soundbite analysis. Maybe try turning off all the automatic stuff and see if you get any further.

My Waves weirdness cleared up by reinstalling.... The current Waveshell is 9.2.x, and I was having some issues while still running 9.1. Waves apparently doesn't alert its users to updates, but I guess they are more critical than I thought.

Indeed that is thread 188, I already truncated the other 187 threads.

Armando, I have noticed that this problem started to occur for you with 8.02, which is when MOTU said there were new "enhancements" to the waveform displays. Of course, the waveforms change when you perform an operation like time stretching, maybe it's getting hung up there?

I don't know a thing about how to read those threads, but to me, this line:

89 libPureDSP.dylib 0x0000000101547cee FundamentalEstimator::GetBestEstimates(float*, double*, float&, float) + 22638

...makes me think it's to do with that outline waveform display DP uses until the DSP operation is finished, and it can rescan for the new waveform. Just a (not-so-educated) guess..
DP11, 2019 16-Core Mac Pro, OS 14 Sonoma , 64GB RAM. RME HDSPe MADI FX to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix console, and multiple digital sub consoles. UAD Quad PCIe. Outboard stuff.

Thanks bro, I suspect the same thing. I got a response from Lore at Motu telling me that they are analyzing my case. I'll let you know what they say.

In the mean time, I'll should go back to 8.01. Man! I wanted so bad to work with the new DP8.03.

Other workaround could be to work in 8.03 and if I have to make a time adjust, close it and do that on DP8.01. But its a waste of time because I use Ableton Live in rewire mode and Live 9 opens very very slow!

Have you tried closing the project, trashing the contents of the project's "Analysis Files" folder, and then reloading the project? That should force DP to rebuild the waveform overviews. Maybe that might help. Shot in the dark.
