MOTU MK3 - Studio monitors and "HiFi-speakers" setup?
Hello
I use my MOTU MK3 Hybrid as audio interface with my main studio monitors (Yamaha HS50). So far so good.
However I want to connect another pair of Hi-Fi speakers and use these as reference for my mixes. Thus I want to switch between studio VS Hi-Fi monitors when needed.
I am unsure how to set this up and what routing I need to do. I would be very thankful for any help.
My current set-up:
1. I have conncected MOTUs Main Out to my studio monitors.
2. I have connected Analog Out 1/2 with audio cables to my Hi-Fi speakers
3. I have set Output drivers in Sonar X2 (my DAW) to Main Out and Analog 1/2
And now what? I get audio from my studio monitors, but not from Hi-Fi speakers. How too proceed? I guess I need to do some routing? Do I need to change something in Cue-FX?
Thanks!

Unless they are powered, and most are not, hi-fi speakers need an amplifier. You can't connect them directly to a line level signal.
So it's MOTU > amp > speakers.
Also, you can't connect most hi-fi amps to a balanced pro +4 dBu line level output like the MOTU. You need a converter to take the pro level down to -10 consumer level.
So it's MOTU > amp > speakers.

I just bought one of these to use with my new Equator D5 monitors. It is the Behringer Mini MON800. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/MON800.aspx
It controls multiple inputs, multiple speakers + other inputs and outputs.
Street is $70 in the USA. Found mine for half that on eBay. It works great and does exactly what I want. Equator has ordered one to see if they can recommend it. One of the things that like is that I can switch between my 828mkII and Mac depending on how I am working.

If you can't get sound out now with it directly connected, how is adding a piece of gear going to help you... logically?
Ultimately though, it would be easier to use a monitor controller with two monitor output pairs and control the level with the external monitor controller. Then you only have to use one output of the MOTU.

Where do you see that? I read this:If you can't get sound out now with it directly connected, how is adding a piece of gear going to help you... logically?

Read the rest of the OP, it's more than one sentence.

Which I read, understood and proposed a solution that will work.4stripes wrote:Read the rest of the OP, it's more than one sentence.
Really.
It's not the only solution but it will certainly will do what the op wants.
