A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the PSP VintageWarmer2 (along with the VintageWarmer and MicroWarmer). While it sounds amazing, it appears to be interacting with DP in a way that's freaking my computer out.
To explore what it could do, I thought I'd mess around with some old projects; these were projects that were created on an earlier computer (but the same version of DP (7.24)), which had less processing speed and half the RAM of my current machine, which is a MacBook Pro with a 2.7 GHz IC i7 and 8 GB of RAM.
On projects that employ the VintageWarmer:
1. Anywhere from one to five minutes into working, my entire desktop will systematically freeze, starting with DP, then working it's way back until Finder is unresponsive, and the only option is a hard reset.
2. While that's happening, the fans ramp up to freak-out level.
The problem occurs exactly how it's outlined in this article. Even if I was overloading my computer (which, according to iSTAT Pro, I wasn't), this is not normal behavior. So it seemed like a hardware issue. I took in to be looked at and it's NOT a hardware issue. EVERY error report generated to send to Apple, in fact, cited DP as the culprit.
Bypassing or removing the plug-in from the projects in question doesn't help, but removing every version of the plug-in from the plug-ins folders and making them thoroughly inaccessible to DP DOES solve the problem.
I searched and found that a few people here have had some VintageWarmer issues (here and here), but nothing like what I'm experiencing. So, it seems like, though it's an wesome plug-in, for me it's completely unusable.
Has anyone encountered this problem or anything like it?
Thanks!

Re: PSP VintageWarmer2 Issue
Very strange. I've been using VW since it came out on several different OS and DP versions and computers and never had a problem. I have read some issues about latency reporting on aux busses but haven't been personally affected by that.
I wish I had some helpful suggestion for you. Since your error reports are pointing to DP, have you contacted MOTU? They'll probably just blame PSP but maybe they've seen this before and have some insight.
Is there any possibility it's something else that is just coincidental? I installed some software once that I thought hosed my system but when it all shook out it turned out my graphics card was slowly dying. It was a solid week of hair pulling until I figured it out.

Re: PSP VintageWarmer2 Issue
Hey, Phil.
Yeah, I contacted MOTU and they requested that I send them the VW component files, which I did yesterday -- I imagine I won't hear back from them until next week. I'm still waiting to hear back from PSP as well.
If there's some coincidental thing happening, I have no idea what it is -- I've never encountered a problem like this. My computer is definitely in tip-top condition.
I'll update as the situation unfolds!

Re: PSP VintageWarmer2 Issue
Update:
I contacted MOTU and PSP. MOTU had never heard of the problem and asked that I send them the PSP VintageWarmer component files. That was a week or so ago and I haven't heard back.
PSP also had no idea what was going on. They asked me to download a couple of their other plug-ins to see if it was just a general PSP problem. I didn't have an issue with any of them. They said they'd send me the beta version of the NEW VintageWarmer in a week or two, when it's ready, which was nice!
For now, the 10.8.3 update appears to have helped things. I'm even running DP 8.01 [nearly] crash free -- which is something I haven't been able to do since buying it months ago.
Unsatisfying, but at least my computer is staying on and is usable!
