Waveform editor and re-loading audio system

Post by Tripi »

Does anyone else have this problem where you open a soundbite in DP's audio editor, and everything freezes while it thinks about something. After you close the window, everything freezes again and the audio system restarts itself (same as if you change your buffer setting). On my large template projects, it seriously takes 5 minutes of beach balling and reloading kontakt instruments, VE pro connections, and then waking back up. Sometimes I open the waveform editor on accident, and just have to sit there while it tries to figure out what to do. I know that if you turn off the little PLAY ARROW button in the WF editor, it doesn't have this problem. But.... it's always on by default, and turning it off freezes things for just as long as closing the window.

Anyone know why DP has this weird behavior, and more importantly, how the hell to make it stop? :)

thanks!

The thing that caused the most pauses for me was not having the hard drives on full time. If they go to sleep, it takes forever for my whole fleet of spinning disks to spin up and get themselves back online. I leave mine on full time when working in DP, and no more pauses.

I'm not seeing the problem, but I don't use very large templates or very exotic VIs.

I have had the same exact issue. Going to the waveform editor seems to force DP to reload the audio engine. In fact it has crashed my system several times when I was near the ram limit. I disabled the key command but every so often I will accidentally command double click on a soundbite and suffer the consequences. I wish DP allowed destructive editing with the pencil tool in the SE when zoomed way in a-la Pro Tools then I would never need to go to the Waveform Editor at all.

I've been trying to find a work around this week, but as far as I can tell, DP always defaults to that behavior. Once you open the wave editor and turn off the little play icon, it will remember that setting until you quit. I still can't even figure out a useful reason why I behaves like this in the first place.
