Authorizing DP 7.24 Without DVD Drive

Hi guys,

i'm having issues with the video engine in DP8.01 and i reverted back to 7.24 for the moment on my MacPro.

I'm trying to authorize DP7 on my 1 week-old iMac and i don't know how we do this since there is no DVD drive on these new Macs...

I tried connecting to my old iMac through ethernet wich worked fine for installing DP7, whith DVD sharing enabled on the old iMac the Install Disk even appears on the new machine's desktop but for some reason when i enter my name and Keycode DP doesn't see the DVD and constantly asks me to re-enter my Keycode....

I also tried from a disc-image with no success...

Anyone?

You might want to search the subject here as it's been covered many times.
1 way is buy an external USB optical drive,you can find them for $20 or $30 and it's a good idea to have in either case.

Will that iMac go into target disk mode?

To get DP7 to authorize on my disc less MacMini I put the MacMini in target disc mode, plugged it into my laptop....booted the laptop (which mine still has an optical drive) off the MacMini drive (hitting the option key on boot)...then you are using the laptop but running off the Macmini...then put the disc in the laptop and it will authorize the MacMini drive.

This is also why DP8 does not authorize this way requiring an optical disc but over the net.

And yes...I discovered the remote disc option would not work on my end either.

yeah i did do a lot of searching but i was kind of hoping to find a software solution as i have zero time to go to a store etc...

And as your sig says i already have too many drives ; )

And Brian thanks for the cue but since the new iMacs just have USB and thunderbolt i'm not sure it does Target mode wich requires firewire iirc...

From my perspective,having an external optical drive is a good idea for burning discs(on occasion)besides having it for programs that need it for disc authorizations.
btw I think you have fw on your Mac if you get a tb to fw adaptor.
