No Cuemix FX window
Maybe I don't understand how Cuemix fx works.
When I open Cuemix fx, the program opens, and I am able to access the menu items, but no interface window opens.
So far I've tried re-installing audio drivers.
I'm inclined to think it is something really simple, like, my 826 doesn't work with cuemix, or ??
See my specs in my sig.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I do. My 828 appears, and my fastlane MIDI interface and keyboard controller show up in audio/MIDI setup.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Do you see your device(s) in audio/MIDI setup?
When I run CueMix FX, the program opens, but just the menu items appear on top. When I click on "Devices" in the menu, nothing drops down.
Obviously,I have a very simple setup.I haven't had a need to use cuemix fx
because, I just use DP for writing and recording small projects.
Usually no more than 10 tracks recorded one at a time.
After watching the Cuemix tutorial video here on Motunation, I thought it might be a better way to control monitoring and a useful tool.
Thanks MLC.

Re: No Cuemix FX window
The 828 wasn't able to use CueMix FX until recently. You need the current MOTU Universal Audio Installer for Mac OS X, dated 9/11/2012.
There was a later build, 9/27/2012 up for a while. If you have that installed, replace it with what is up there now.

Re: No Cuemix FX window
The original 828 or 896 do not work with CueMix FX, but any later generation will.
Instead, those models had a simpler "monitor input" function that is available in the motu setup app. You can basically patch one input to the main outs at a time for direct monitoring.

Thanks so much for the replies. MLC.
I'll try to download the latest drivers again.
Thanks mikehalloran.
I have a feeling that agent of random's last post was correct.
828 may not run cue mix.
I'll let you guys know.
Thanks again.

Re: No Cuemix FX window
I can confirm that. The original 828 and 896 cannot run today's CueMix. It seems like they had a version of it back in MacOS-9, but I'm not sure about that. That's been over 10 years ago. In any case, they haven't run CueMix in any version of OSX. They are considered to be "legacy boxes," as were the other interfaces before the HD versions or the mkiii versions.
The Legacy PCI-424 boxes now have more CueMix capability than they had originally, but they won't run the effects now built into CueMix. Meters, yes, but effects, no.
But the old Firewire boxes definitely do not run today's CueMix.

Thanks Shooshie, (love the name btw.)
In looking in my applications folder, I noticed I also have programs called, firewire cuemix console, and MOTU firewire audio console.
Neither of them open up when I click on them. They are most likely from me trying to download different drivers etc.
Can I delete them and clean out some space?
Incidentally,
I used to use a 1224 interface with a PCI-424 card in my G5 powermac.
But, It fried 2 power supplies in my computer. (At least I think the PCI card was the culprit.) After I started using my 828 and firewire, my old powermac has been fine.
Thanks again.

Re: No Cuemix FX window
To clarify this, the 896 and 828 originals do not have built-in mixers or standalone operation like their later counterparts. There was never a separate CueMix application for these models, although the old MOTU FireWire Console and newer MOTU Audio Setup applications do supply the ability to patch one input to the main output at a time.
Make sense?
Cheers!

Just so there is no confusion, let me add that the CueMix software itself does not have any built-in effects. CueMix is a software front end for the internal mixer of the hardware you have connected. If you connect a newer MOTU model (such as Track16) that has built-in effects, you will see them in the CueMix software. If you attach an older model (such as the PCI424) that does not not have built-in effects, you will not see any effects in the CueMix software.Shooshie wrote:The Legacy PCI-424 boxes now have more CueMix capability than they had originally, but they won't run the effects now built into CueMix. what about the tools included in Cuemic FX ( FFT etc... )
Don't they run on the host computer via FW / USB ?

Re: No Cuemix FX window
The CueMix meters work on PCI-424 cards, regardless of how old is the attacked box. But no effects on legacy boxes. There is no CueMix for legacy firewire boxes, so not even meters will be available for them. CueMix works with the PCI-424 card, and with current firewire boxes that come with CueMix. I don't have a current firewire box, so I can't say with any certainty what new firewire interfaces do or don't do, but I have legacy PCI boxes and legacy firewire boxes, and I can tell you with certainty that CueMix works with the legacy PCI boxes, and the meters work in it, but again, no FX. And there is no CueMix for my old Firewire boxes. Period.

I hear you Re: meters...
The tools in

are not processed in current interfaces, as far as I know...
they are processed in the host computer, do you have these tools in Cuemix FX with legacy interfaces ?

Re: No Cuemix FX window
The legacy PCI-424 boxes are able to use CueMix FX's meters, but not the effects. Meters, yes. Reverb, dynamics or compression, no. Here is a screenshot I just took for this post. It shows the 5 metering tools in CueMix in action with a MOTU 1296 "legacy" PCI-424 interface. These are all the tools that are available for the legacy interfaces in CueMix FX.Klaus wrote:I hear you Re: meters...

Ahh, cool . Processed in the host then.
In Cuemix FX for the new boxes, there is a 'meters' detail window, the meters you describe, I call them tools... sorry for the confusion
