Hi
I want to change my soundcard (currently a focusrite saffire 6 USB 1) because i'm using many VST and this soundcard crackles quickly (my computer has an SSD, an intel i7 ....)
i know that i will buy a MOTU interface but which one ?
with my budget i can offer a track 16, an ultralite mk3 or maybe a 828 mk3 hybrid
numbers of in and out doesn't matter, i have only a groovebox and my monitors
the most important is to avoid crackles and saturation when i use some vst ( i have ~10 tracks with 1-2 vst in ableton & studio one)
which one of these should give me best result ?
thanks for your advice

Before spending the money on a new interface, I'd figure out the cause of the crackling. I wouldn't assume the Sapphire is the problem, and if not, getting a new interface won't solve the problem.

i think the problem is the saffire because i have the USB 1.1 version, not the version with native USB 2
apparently it makes a difference when working with the USB 1 version (drivers are not the same too)
my computer is also a good one (intel i7, SSD, 6 Go RAM)and when i have some crackles, CPU in DAW (Live or studio one) is at max
when pushing up the buffer it's better but not perfect
tried this interface on a mac book pro with same projects, i have same problems

Re: track 16 or ultralite or 828 mk3 hybrid
I've experienced cracking in M-Audio FW410s, Saffire Pro 24 DSP and my most recent acquisition, a TRack 16 from MOTU (thanks MOTU!). The FW410 doesn't allow external power while attached to FW. Well, it does, but it doesn't actually do anything if I am understanding the literature and should be used for stand alone only. The Saffire never got to the point of trying it with external power as I got the Track 16 soon afterwards and like it so much it's staying permanent (with the other two units as backup if.when needed).
But the track 16 was also crackling on my system from time to timeuntil I attached the external power supply. Since then not a peep out of the crackling monster. Not one!
SO my conclusion is that the causation is the apparent conflict between the FW audio signal and the buss power.
Hope that helps.

Sorry, I didn't realize it was a USB 1.1. Still, it should be able to handle the number of audio channels it has. The DAW you are using will only send data to the ports the Sapphire has. Running more tracks or channels in the DAW doesn't increase the load on the audio interface.lxegs wrote:i think the problem is the saffire because i have the USB 1.1 version, not the version with native USB 2
