My new 27inch i7 iMac, DP8 and Firewire adapter...

Post by jpmason »

8 days ahead of schedule (crazy eh?) my 27inch i7 iMac with 1Tb fusion drive arrived!

I restored my set up using Time machine and aside from a few authorisation codes which needed to be re-input, including DP8, everything went un-cannily well!

I plugged my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 in using the Firewire - Thunderbolt adapter...and blow me, that worked as well!

I loaded up a DP8 project and did various bits of "dicking about" and 2 days later it is all still "Tickety Boo" :) Admittedly I haven't put it under any real strain yet, but all the Plug-ins (including Waves) work as expected and the performance monitor is reasonably low. Bounce to disc is very rapid, but I am not sure at this stage what benefits, if any, having the Fusion drive gives.

The iMac itself is incredibly gorgeous and, like all good super models, unfeasibly thin...and unlike many super models almost silent!

Immersing myself in Geekdom for a brief moment, the Thunderbolt - Firewire adapter is incredibly well made....and more importantly... works...so worth the £25 I say

The only casualty of my upgrade is Bias Peak, which is screwed...but ho-hum that's a small price to pay for a pretty seamless upgrade!

Happy days :D
