In DP8 the paradigm with separating the MIDI-tracks from the VI,s played by the MIDI-track puts great demands on my ability to change my usual work flow, coming from Logic Pro 9.
Is it true that if I want to solo a MIDI-track I have solo the corresponding VI aux too?

Use V-Racks for VI's. I don't like virtual instruments cluttering up my tracks, so I keep them all in V-Racks, no matter how small the project, usually. From that point, using any instrument is done the same way as it was always done in MIDI. You simply route the MIDI track to the instruments in the V-Rack as if they were a part of your MIDI rack gear. And just as you would with any MIDI instrument, you route its audio into DP via an Aux track, or even via an audio track if you prefer to "freeze" your MIDI. (record it to an audio track)
And of course soloing a MIDI track is not a problem in any way. You just make sure the aux returns are Solo Exempt, so that they always carry audio, no matter the solo status.

I take the exact opposite approach of Stephen- I solo exempt the MIDI tracks, so when I solo the VIs, they're always still playing. Also, if I used multiple MIDI tracks with the same channel to play the VI, I don't have to solo them all when I'm trying to EQ/process the VI. Of course this can backfire if I'm playing multiple parts through one VI instance, so I can opt to not solo exempt those.. but that's the great thing about DP, you've got all these different ways to work. With other DAWs, this flexibility doesn't exist.
