DP8.01 unusable here.. is Snow Leopard the problem?
I was so excited to download the new 8.01 update. I had to change out my Mackie Control plugin, and I took someone's advice here and trashed the DP playlist in the prefs, but that's about it. I need to run DP8 in 32 bits for now, because I must have the UAD plugs in my work.
I pulled up a large template (but large or small doesn't seem to matter). When I selected some tracks in the TO, press the mixer tab, nothing there. I knew they broke that so no surprise, but when I go back to the Tracks tab the TO comes up solid white, with only the wiper bar there. switch back to mixer and it's solid white too. I would give you guys a screenshot but I don't know how to post pictures here. After several minutes, it looked as though it was trying to draw the TO stuff in, but just couldn't manage.. the processor was obviously severely overloaded.
Now, I have a 12 core with 24GB RAM. I have a powerful video card with only one monitor. How can 7.24 work so well, even with HUGE templates, but I can't even make it off the ground with DP8?
Then two things occurred to me. Seems to me many people here that are getting along well with DP8 are on Lion/ML, and/or they are running DP8 in 64 bits. It makes sense to me that the OS I'm running might be the problem, especially since Lion/ML apparently handles the video cards differently than SL.
So, do I update the computers to Mountain Lion, or whatever animal they're up to now, in hopes that DP8 works better, or do I just go back to the extremely solid 7.24, and leave the OS where it is? Come back next summer when DP 8.24 is released?
Maybe 32 bit DP8 is the dog, and it will run much better for me in 64 bits.. wait for the 64 bit UAD plugs and try again? Questions..

SL is not the problem. If it was, it would be for everyone, and MOTU wouldKillahurts wrote:I was so excited to download the new 8.01 update. have stated that Lion or Mountain Lion are required.
Try trashing DP's preferences and repairing permissions. If that doesn't work, try re-installing the update, or go back and re-install from the original disc and then run the update installer again.
DP 8.01 is working here for me (I'm on 10.6.8, running DP in 32-bit), albeit I'm still running into a memory usage "redline" with track and VI-heavy projects that were started in 7.24. Not sure what the cause is there. Projects started in 8.0
are fine.

Maybe completely unrelated,
I had empty windows with multiple chunks, needed to close the window, then select the chunk and then no more empty windows upon launching SE window
Best

Thanks. I should have noted that the blank screens were while using the consolidated window.. I did not try to pop them out.. maybe I should.Klaus wrote:Maybe completely unrelated,

Well, I haven't tried reinstalling from the original disk.. I guess I could try that, albeit it's a hassle.David Polich wrote:SL is not the problem. If it was, it would be for everyone, and MOTU would

Running DP8.01 on 10.6.8 successfully.
No need to change to another OSX.
Please read my topic here and find out that UAD runs succesfully under JBridge.
I recommend to run DP8.01 in 64 bit and never look back.

It would appear not.. but the 32 bit version of DP is a different story. I Ran the 64 bit DP8.01 today for quite a while (for the first time), with no problems at all, even with Kontakt's Memory Server still turned on. I would even go so far as to say it was snappy.mikeka wrote:.... and running DP 8.01 64 bit with OS 10.6.8 here with no probs other than jerky .mov video on my Mac Pro 1,1. RG, I know about JBridge, but it's VST only. I don't have VST versions for many of my plug ins yet. Getting them for UAD would be easy enough, but some others I use would be more problematic to find and install. IIRC, you have to choose your plugin format, AU or VST, no mixing the two.. am I right?

Check my signature. I got about all common plugins on the market.. There is no problem finding VST versions for these . I did install VST a while ago after installing Wavelab on the Mac. Log in to your plugin accounts and download the VST version or reinstall and chose the VST option. It's really just as easy like that

You're right, of course, I'm just being lazy. Really when I think about it, there are not that many that I don't have VST for.. I think.. certainly I have all the important ones like Sonnox and SSL, and Altiverb 7 which I just installed last week. Hmmm, Spectrasonics stuff? Korg?
Guess it's time for me to do a VST inventory. Never thought I'd actually use VSTs.

Or you could get Vienna Ensemble, which works really well as a 32bit bridge. Will also be useful when you wanna farm out the load to other computers so it's money well spent. There's still some bouncing problems when you do that, but it can be avoided. I think it's a must-buy when working with DP & 32/64bit plugs.

Hi -- new DP user here, but I think I can shed some light... You CAN mix & match AU and VST; no need to search for and install VST plugs if you already have the AU 64-bit versions. When I first installed and ran DP8 I panicked, because it asked for my "preferred" plugin format, as if I had to choose either/or. All this means is that if you prefer AU and have a VST version of the same plugin installed, DP enables the AU version (and disables the VST) by default.Killahurts wrote: I don't have VST versions for many of my plug ins yet. You could override this and enable the VST as well, no problem. If you're only using VST to JBridge your 32-bit stragglers, you only need to install VST versions for those plugs (and you may as well uninstall the 32-bit AU versions, if you're going to run DP exclusively in 64-bit mode). Hope this helps...

Killahurts-
I had the same apprehension, maybe you have been more diligent with not installing VST's than I was, lol!
I got jbridge and thought I'd have to hunt down VST's for 20 or 30 plugs besides my UAD plugs,it turned out I only need to find 1!!!
I guess I had gotten lax the last few years and installed VSTs of everything except the lone URS Saturation!
I approached the purchase of jbridge with much trepidation, initially thinking well it's only $13 and if I can get a few VSTs working and add a few here and there it will be OK but I'm blown away how well jbridge is working and how easy the process was for me.
So,I'm hoping you were as much of a lax anti-VST slacker as I apparently have been because jbridge is the best $13 I've spent in a long time and I really don't care now if UAD or most of my other plugs go 64bit! lol
Good Luck

Yes this helps a lot! Great information here, thanks for clearing it up for me! I mainly just need the UAD plugs to work with Jbridge until the 64 bit versions are released, which I understand may be imminent.tremo wrote:Hi -- new DP user here, but I think I can shed some light... I do use VE Pro over multiple machines for VIs, but I can't see using it for plugins like EQs and such. I know it can do it now, but.. It just would break up my workflow too much.

Re: DP8.01 unusable here.. is Snow Leopard the problem?
Yeah, I'm gonna try Jbridge when I get back in town. I downloaded the demo a few weeks ago, but for $13 it's pretty much a no brainier so ill get started soon as I get back in town. Yesterday, 64 bit was working well, even with a large template. So to answer my own post, it's not SL, it's 32 bit DP8 that is unusable in my studio.kgdrum wrote:Killahurts-
